What's the deal and how can I get one? It's for a b'day present, need it by December so can import if that's the best option. Thanks

Top of your screen there is the "search" button. There is heaps of info on here regarding preferences of detector unit. Top models are the Bel STi or close second (I'm biased) is the Valentine 1.

There is a host of other models, but it depends on your budget as well.

    Woah

RRP $1,160!? I don't like him THAT much. Maybe like up to $400-ish? Is it cheaper to import from overseas? Any good websites?

Will do the search now too. Thanks for your help

Try this one... If you get a cheapie you might get away without paying GST, but if you get a good one you'll have to front up with the GST before they deliver it.

My last X50 stopped working, they replaced it with a new one, no problem.

Wow good call on that website, it's about $200 NZD cheaper for the same product, esp with the good NZD at the moment. Questions though..

    - The Passport 9500ix (blue) or passport 9500i (red) - anyone tried this? Not a lot about it on the forum so far. It says it has lots of N. America speed camera locations loaded on. Would this just be junk when using it in NZ? It has GPS? Would it be worth the extra $150 or so?

    - Why is blue more expensive than red lights?!

I've got a brand new Valentine 1 you can have for $800, it's an unwanted gift as I had already brought one for myself.

With that kind of budget, i would recommend any of the Beltronics Vector 940, 955, 965 or 995 models brand-new off trademe. They are a good basic detector plus also have an earphone jack.

One of the Bels would be a much better buy than a Cobra.

    Question New cameras

has anyone noticed their detector not working until it's too late on the new cameras?
Apparently they operate on a lower K band than most detectors scan for

No problems picking them up, but then again I didn't buy a cheap POS detector... for this very reason.

X50 Escort works well on my bike, I left K band off as prefer the lack of false alarms- normally the cameras looking at front of bike anyhow.
You will need a radar screamer or amplifier/speaker system to be able to hear it though- they are very quiet.
