But yet he doesn't want more training of cage drivers to look at their surroundings.

Maybe cyclists should be wearing full gear (inc full face helmet) plus nav lights and beacons. And they'd still get knocked off and injured/killed. Look at that girl in Mission Bay - hit half-a-dozen at once.

Looking for a simple solution to a complex problem.

Still, were I (or a loved one) spending any time on a pushbike, I'd have those LED lights on (front and back) permanantly - particularly on open roads.

... to continue slowly in a south-bound direction at the far side of the north-bound lane
Only a psyclist would expect to do that and NOT have it end badly!

And, the coronor wants hi-viz mandatory because

{the coronor} commended {the psyclist's} wearing of a visibility vest, but said combined with his otherwise dark clothing, the fact he was wearing a backpack over his vest meant his visibility was reduced.
So, the dude was wearing a hi-viz when he was killed. Anyone else see what's wrong with this picture

After reading that Coroners report, I would call it suicide.

Coroners are like Auditors they always seem to need to make recommedations to change things (lest someone think they are not doing their job)

Having said that, and reading the story I think this one needs his bumps felt since no amount of hi-vis clothing was going to substitute for the lack of attention on the part of this rider.

Why not recommend the banning the use of clip on cycle shoes on the road.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. I only read the story once. The cyclist was riding on the wrong side of the road, towards traffic doing 100km/h?

    For real??
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Good idea. Half the cyclists might give up cycling with embarresmt and leave more room on the road for the rest of us.

Yeah, and guess who they'd make fluro vests compulsory for after that worked?

Again I postulate that wankers should have their own country.

Somewhere with lots of palms would probably be a good idea.

I'll wear a fluro vest when he forces everyone to quit smoking.
I don't want to smell that shit. It gives you cancer, when you don't even ask for it.

You should see the speeds they get upto on their peddle powered cycles down the Port Hills in Christchurch. Madness.
