Interphone F4

last week i went to cycletreads and bought a pair of the F4's

i have been using them around the house to get a feel for their use

but today i went for a ride with my 14 year old boy on the back to see what they are like on the bike

first impresions ? rather unevent full, they did what they say on the box
cristal clear sound up to 120kph , over that the conversation is possible but i have a noisy helmet, and may need a bit of refining to get the best out of them at speed, we went up to 160 (obviously this was on a closed rd ,)
and the sound wasn't breaking up

the next thing is to get an Itouch as this will put music direct to the F4

the only drawback is that they only conect to 1 other F4 at a time

so i geuss to talk to a 3rd person the 2nd must turn their unit off

i bought these because i have been looking for years for a resonably priced intercom and this "ticks" lots of the boxes and more that i dont need like hands free phone calls

all in all i think they are worth the $650 a pair
as i can see them lasting for a long time

now i need a couple of extra pairs of headsets to use on the dirt bikes

went for a longer ride with the wifey

the F4 seem to change when there in no talking going on
and pick up clutter, sounds like a packet of chipies russeling
but as soon as you talk again it disapears
i assume thats why you would turn them onto stand-by

i allso turned the volume up to full and its easyer to hear at higher speed

If these Interphones are anything like the initial iteration, you'll soon get tired of the 5 hour battery life and of them falling in and out of synch if the second bike drops out of range at 150-180m. It's a real fag having to cycle the button to switch between applications and to reconnect to the rider on the second bike. $650 is way too much to pay.

Still using my original Blueant Interphone (non stereo). Take it out with me 90% time on the road, paired up with my husband on one channel and on the other my Garmin Zumo which provides my music, GPS instructions and also receives phone calls via my N97. It does have the odd geriatric moment (doesn't link up to the other Interphone or the Garmin) I turn it off and then back on and it comes right, even after 3 years. Will eventually update to the F4 only because of stereo output.

F4 spec says 500m range and 5 simultaneous connections.
Do they not work at that range and do you have to connect to only 1 unit at a time?
I was keen until I realised I was going to be bankrupted buying them. Also you can only talk to ther Interphones and most of my mates use plain old 2 way radios.
Does anyone know how well the GME radios work?

I have had the Interphone (original) for several months now and have only recharged it TWICE. But then I only use it for the cellular phone anyway which probably makes quite a difference...specially since I never hear it ring through the earplugs and thus never talk on it...fat lot of use really...

Yip I agree the battery lasts ages. But I have now destroyed 2 microphones so need a more robust replacement. 1st was replaced under warranty beiong made clear the replacement did not have another 12 months warenty. Use only for answering mobile phone

I have a set of F4s. Can't say I am in love with them. In a open face my wife says she can't understand what I am saying above 80km/hr.

I agree with you, Its just an OK device for me. the voice quality at high speed sucks. People I spoke to, couldn't hear me above 60.

bike ..wasted a huge amount on such an ordinary product.... won t buy that cheap gadget in a near future....

I had the original Interphone set for me and the wife and we got tired of it only lasting 3.5 to 4 hours. The F4 is WAY better. 12 hours connection, stereo sound, and the ability to connect one (or even more) phones (not sure why). What I like, is that if you set the phone as the primary device it plays a noise to let you know a call is coming and automatically answers. You simply switch back to the intercom after the call.

Well worth the money IMHO.

We purchased two sets to use on our new Burgman 650.

Having tried a number of others we can so far not fault these. The homework said that they were excellent and this they are. Easy to set up if one follows the instructions. Have the GPS connected and can use phone via this and as it is a unit with a hard drive can listen to the music as well.

Also works well stand alone with the phone. But only answer phone and then stop asap so all is done safely. (find that it is not possible to concentrate phone and riding at the same time (or driving for that matter in the car).

Now looking at Bluetooth transmitter that will connect to 3.5 mm socket so we can connect other gear e.g. FM radio, or Ipod or other with one bit of kit.

Looking forward to our next summer be it here or in Europe wiith this kit as it is that good.

I have sets for $230 each if anyone wants one and someone has given a good review. Does much the same as the $650 ones by the sound of it.
