Friday night traffic on sh1 was 2 trucks and a car colision, i went through just after it happened (3:30 ish) huge mess, mway to one lane just after greenlane
Friday Night traffic - I got on at Penrose, heading south and lane split all the way to Manurewa. I thought it was the combination of people heading out of town, coupled with the wet roads.
Google was telling me it would take 1:09 to get from Newmarket to Hill Road on Friday night. The southern motorway was showing as "black" (congested) all the way from the Harbour Bridge to Hill Road. So I decided to try Manukau Road and the Southwestern Mway. Took me just under 30 minutes and I hardly had to split traffic at all. I reckon it would've been 40+ minutes splitting all the way on the Southern.
I'm finding the southwestern to be a quicker, easier, and safer option on those nights when Google puts the travel time at over 50 mins. I'm just trying to work out which route is the best (i.e. has the best bus-lanes) - Manukau/Pah Rd, Gillies/St Andrews, or Mt Eden Road. I'm also considering whether to try some of these on mornings when the Southern is particularly slow.
His twin brother must ride on the Southern - there's a guy on a brand new Honda Repsol CBR600RR who wears full Repsol leathers rain or shine but he crawls along.
Don't think I'll be there this week sorry. Got some work I have to catch up on so might need Tuesday night free.
Here at SASS, we try not to be judgmental but encouraging as we try and stay on top of the game.
I have to point this out to you here, seeing as you wont be along tomorrow. Otherwise I might have done that ear-twisting thing that grandmothers do
Too many out there are riding too fast. If they think it is showing what proficient riders they are... well it doesn't do it for me.
Nice to know some are being careful.

Your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behaviour does.
I don't think people go fast in order to display their proficiency I think most just ride fast to ride fast.
Didn't mean to come across as judgemental re that guy, just that usually most would assume that a guy in a Marquez helmet, Repsol leathers and Repsol bike would ride like he's dressed. But therein lies the problem with assuming..
