Wellington's Weds night group ride RANT

I know that what I am about to say will get me flamed to hell and back. Quite frankly, I dont give a shit.
Now firstly, I apologise for being at the front of the group on my slow old FXR at the start of the hill and secondly, I am not grouping everyone into this rant.

Guy's, I am genuinely appalled at what I experienced on the TCWNR tonight. I know I am not a nana on the road and do often ride at over the speed limit but what I saw tonight freaked me out so much that I pulled into the summit and went home.

Since when is it OK to pass people IN THE SAME FUCKING LANE while going round a corner?!?! Along with watching out for wannabe Rossi's I had to watch some of you cross the centre lane sometimes 3 of you in a row round corners you cou;dn't see around, and dont give me the "there was plenty of room" crap, I was right next to you, you couldn't see!

I do not want to be killed OR scrape someone off the road because someone just had to get past me or because someone wanted to treat the road like a race track. I race and I have never been so scared while riding then I was tonight. I think that some of you need to take a step back and have a think about what your doing and the image that you give others.

WTF happened to the "cruisy" Weds night ride?

    Let the flaming begin....

Yep, I debated the whole way home but I was so fucked off that I couldn't hold it, I have lost too many mates on bikes.

I had not done the Weds night ride for years. I wont be doing it again. I knew there was a reason why I gave up group rides!

I have to agree. While I'm fully aware of the fact that I'm a lot slower/less competent than most other riders present, last Wednesday looked a lot more like death than like a cruisy ride. It certainly didn't look like an easy ride to the pub with an element of mentoring. I'm not saying this to moralise or be a killjoy, merely to say that I agree with Hels and I won't be attending next time.

Yeah, they seem to have morphed into a pack of scary bastards just lately, seriously considered not doing another one after last week, but then I thought stuff it! I'll just hang at the back where all the really cool kids ride.

Yeah, that's what I should've done but I seriously thought that it was a 'Cruisy Weds Night Ride". What I found funny was that noone passed me on the motorway or going up toward the hill so I was practically in the front of the group when we hit the hill. Alot of people passed me nicely on the first passing lane or down the relatively straight bits but the antics I mentioned above all happened on the twisty bits going up the hill. I don't mind being passed but it's the manner in which people do it for me only to come round the next corner to see them all stuffed up a cars arse. Maybe it was because of the race numbers that I looked intimidating. FXR's can have that effect, lol!

You're just sore because they own'd you with superior extra manly riding ability & got to the top first for the trophy. There was trophies wasn't there?

Well said Hels. I sometimes marvel about how other riders get their jollies. Being first over the Takas does not a good rider make.
