Leak on exhaust

Ok I've just got some after market exhaust for my VTR1000 and when I start the engine I feel a leak comming out from where the mid pipe connects and you have that ring bolt thingy. Now I supect the pipe(tht came with the cans) may be slightly out of shape as the left hand side exhaust has no problem.

Now this leak is not big but can feel it when I put my hand out so can I fix this problem by using a high temp sealant to fill the gaps up?

High temp sealant should be fine if it's only a small leak, just use it sparingly - assuming you can't lightly panel beat the offending pipe into shape?
You could also shim it with a thin band of flat steel rolled into shape, you may also be able to get some sleeves from a bike shop - they used to be quite common but I haven't seen any around for a long time, like the ones in the pic. Though I'm guessing the gap probably isn't that big. (I found this pic on Demon Tweeks website in the UK)

Well it appears the mid pipe in question may be at fault as I emailed Motor cross parts about this problem and got an email back saying they'e no longer dealing with TBR due to issues of fitment and delivery and appears I aint the only one having problrms. Also appears they are agreeing to fix existing problems as read it right.

Will have to ring this guy to clear it all up.

Should have also asked why does my right side pipe not feel as hot as the left and notice far less carbon deposits on the baffles on the right side also?

More leak may cause it to be leaner/hotter. So did you fix the leak? I've bought some exhaust gasket sheet (small bit of grey covered thick foil stuff) from Repco in the past & cut a strip & stuffed it in there (also move the clamp so it clamps the split section near the join. Along with a bit of hi temp exhuast gasket goo & should be fine.

Other reason for difference in cylinders may be carb needle wear. they do that, search the factorypro website & look (deep) for emulsion tube info.

Also replace the cam chain tensioners with APE manual ones. A friend's just failed & he got away with just some bent valves, but searching the web they all do it with kms on them. Cheap insurance.
