Rim damage due to roadworks

Coming home last night I hit what I believe to be a 'lip' on the road left by roadworkers excavating the road.

It's fucked the back wheel pretty severely (on both sides too).

Who in the Auckland area can repair this kinda thing?.. If it hasn't damaged the entire wheel by off-setting it that is.

That rim must be made of cheese, normally it would take a quite large impact to deform a rim like that. There is an outfit down here who repair them, so no doubt you'll find someone in Akl. Ring your local bike shop and ask them if you have no luck here.

www.rimrite.co.nz in Palmerstom North is such a place, but there is probably such a place closer to Auckland.

You'd think so eh?

It felt like a pretty huge impact from where I was sitting though, felt like I'd imagine what hitting a decent sized animal does, lol.

holy fuck thats a lot of damage, if the works weren't sign posted you may be able to get compensation (i speak from no experience here, but the bush lawyer on here often say it can happen)

Same thing happened to my partner on the way to Whitianga last year. If there was no signage up I would contact the local council and charge them for repairs.

My partner got his fixed in Aukland but I cant remember where! Will ask him tonight and post his answer to let you know. Think it might of been somewhere recommended by Cycletreads.They did a great job. You might be better off doing an insurance claim though and fixing the rims to keep as spares.

It's a really bad time for it to happen. The bike has just (within the last 6 weeks) been repaired by insurance, and seriously.. Less than 12 hours beforehand it had a full service done top-to-bottom by Motorcycle Doctors.

*sigh*.. FML

If you could find out who the roading company was, make a claim. I know 2 individuals who have been successful in getting money out of roading companies insurance because of crappy roadworks damaging their bikes.

Yeah, but I was on the throttle so the front was light.

.. Ok, not *that* light.. It is a 250, but I think the front rolled over it ok and even though it hit it too there wasn't enough weight on it to do anything.

As for tyre pressures, 32 front 36 back checked during service by a mechanic less than 12 hours earlier. Watched him do it myself.
