Total newbie seeking BHS help

So im dave. Me and my mate have always been talking about getting into the whole bike thing, its nice to be able to just go places! plus i hear you see more on a bike =p

Ive been looking around, whats the best place to do a BHS test and tutorial in auckland? I have some riding skills but im still very inexperianced. I went the way of getting a bike first to encourage me to go through with it ^^ so far so good. Ive had a little play where theres little or no traffic with stops, starts and balance and its feeling alot more comfortable.

Could anyone recomend somewhere thats well priced and has good tutors?

I just did my BHS with Riderskills and they were pretty good and if you go early on a week day morning you'll likely get one-on-one training. Dawn with the username Qckchk is supposed to be very good I've heard too

I did my BHS through http://www.riderskills.co.nz/ they run most of their courses in West Auckland but occasionally run them at Pukekohe. I really like how they let you register online with very little hassle (no credit card required either).

They're great tutors, I turned up having never ridden a motorbike before and left smilin'

Based on what exactly? i have cbr600s and no licence at all. I would say it more depends on where you ride

On a serious note though (and this might be a dumb question) but can you do a bhs on a bike larger than 250? seeing the test is not done on the road i was unsure if you could or not, and if you cant then can you do it on a scooter?

If the OP bought a bike to encourage himself to go through with BHS (which would eventually leading to 6L license to ride on the road) then that's epic fail! If he just intend to ride around a track, why bother?

The logic behind it all escapes me somehow...

I did my BHS on a 115cc (IIRC) Honda step-through without having to worry about the gear change. But the word was they were changing the rules on that... so probably pays to check with the place where you are going to sit your BHS.

According to the nzta website, you can no longer do your BHS on an automatic bike. So as to whether or not you could do it on a scooter, only if it had gears (which having ver minimal experience with them I wouldn't kno if any had them)

The answer is no. You cannot sit the test on a bike larger than 250, & legally you cannot ride a big bigger than 250cc until you get your full class 6 licence.

If a bike is less than 2.2kw & can only travel at 50ish ks, then it is a moped & you do not need a motorcycle licence to ride it, only a car licence.

If it is bigger than 2.2kw & travels faster than 50ks, then it is a scooter & you do need a motorcycle licence to ride it.

Cheers mate didnt know that, gutted ya cant sit the test on a scooter lol.
I very really ride on the road at all as my bike is set up for stunting (no lights etc) and gets trailered to where we ride.
I was just looking to get my licence as it would be a handy thing to have so i could atleast be somewhat legal
