It wasn't gravel. Just a loose surface with small potholes and a few puddles. AS it turned out we only had 2 guys with restricted license come along to play. We found it straightforward and just plain fun.
The rain held off until the home stretch and wind was not the problem it would have been on the Bays ride.
Had an embarrassment of senior riders to help. To the point where two elected to go home rather than accompany the ride ( thanks Gavin and Mark. Hope to see you next week )
The final route took us along Harcourt Wherry, down onto the riverbank access track and up onto seal again further north. From there we went out the back of Trentham Camp, up along Whitemans Valley to Maymorn and then back down the highway and along the access tracks on the western side. These sections were very ably led by Byron and Eugene.
I was especially pleased to note the lead riders followed the pace of the slowest rider this week. These outings simply MUST be ridden according to the ability/confidance of the less experienced riders.
Back to my house for coffee and talk afterward. During this time we discussed problems arising on the ride and what can be done to improve this route next time we do it. One rider mentioned that he'd like to do more playing on loose surfaces. Specifically, tight turns, stops and starts and U-turns. I will attempt to include this next time.
I'm unsure as yet where we are heading next Tuesday. Bryce mentioned hill starts and suggested the area up toward the Wind turbine would be a good place to head. Input from learners about what you need to practice to get the next stage of your license would be welcome. These rides are for you, make use of the many years of on-road experience the senior riders have accumulated.
