But it's got good exposure, focus, colour, obeys the rule of thirds and everything!

There's also a KLR in it but that can't be helped.

That means going upstream on the mackley crossing but that cant be helped. River should be low at the end of Feb if this weather keeps up, infact if it remains this hot it'll probly dry up completely

    Aorereing

Been meaning to get back to this little gem of a track for a while We thought there may have been some damage due to the flooding in the Aorere earlier this year. So a plan was hatched over a couple of woodys on the thursday night
The day started crap when we discovered some turkey put new seal on the Takaka hill and then had the cheek to put traffic lights up there too ,double ....bluty road works. Stilll a good ride though
A trip to Takaka isn't complete with out a ride down the East Takaka rd.
Thats the Takaka river, not a lot of river left

Only stoped for fuel in town today, then made tracks to the Aorere goldfields,
through the dairy farm at the start then we wind our way up onto the paaki country.

OI !! I'm up here MrsJ

    .

Took a little side track to a campsite down by Druggans dam.

The industry that went on up here is astounding. It's a good walk around the dam and into Ballroom cave where they had dances when the place was a hive of activity. The lengths they went to to get gold were mind boggling. Quite a bit of history here
Any way..... back to the riding....
    Got down to the campsite

Didn't stop for lunch, cause we only had water, so we left and continued our journey

    Another side track...

And this is as far as we felt like going down here

Made our way back to the main track....

Someone has had a dozer in there and flattened bits of the track out Back when I was starting out ADV riding it was a struggle getting a 4wd up the track
Here's the always popular pic of someone crossing a ford

Anyway..... we popped out here, Devils boots in Golden bay

Had a bite to eat in Collingwood, at the Courthouse, not to shabby . See the Kangaroo ? They don't "do" numbers there, you get a plastic animal instead, way cooler

Mrs J sugested we have a look down all the roads on the left on our way back to Takaka, some interesting stuff to see when you get off the main rd.
Most rd's led to a beach, so it would be rude not to have a quick blast on the sand

Then it was just a "gentle" ride back home over the hill.

    THE END

Some bugger has put a digger through the Pelorus side river crossing on the Maungatapu

It's about 3 lanes wide now but just as steep and sandy.

I think they did it so they can get some big diggers or something up further without damaging the bridge

    Rainbow/Molesworth

Seeing as how I had a 2 day weekend and Molesworth was going to close for the season a trip was in order
Saturday morning MrsJ and I packed a spare pair of undies and the bank card and headed for a rendevous with Nordie, Greg and Snodpete in St Arnaud.
Despite the rain and the fact MrsJ was on the boys DR250 we were both in good spirits

    Into Rainbow we go......
    Lookin good there S.P.

It was a fairly standard trip through the Rainbow, with the rain deciding to go somewhere else

We said good bye to S.P. at the turn off to Malings pass, he was going to Reefton to spend the night with his good lady While the rest of us headed for the pass

At the top of the pass

after a steepish descent we reached the floor of the valley

We reached the end of the vehicle track

And had to turn 'round and go back

Back onto the Rainbow road and we headed for Edwards pass, another in and out track onto the St James station (?)

Didn't go all the way in, gotta leave something for next time but we saw enough.

    Wotcha doin Greg ?

Then it was into Hanmer to look for some diggs for the night Next time I'm going to book, who woulda guessed everything would be full

Sunday... the plan was to hook up with S.P. again and head through the Molesworth.

Could sworn I saw a smurf lurking about here

    Anyway......

I didn't take any pics worth posting when we were going through the Molesworth.

And what trip would be complete with out a "technical issue"

This happened at the begining of Taylors pass, one set of tyre levers got as far as Taylors dam and the other set was almost in Blenheim before she got my message

Thats about it for this trip
    Untill next time.....

Yep. Warewolf, Woodman and I went down that one. Goes off at/near the summit and heads off east?

Was pretty rain rutted when we went down...
