Fuel leak - 2007 Suzuki GN 250

Hi there,
Today someone informed me that my bike is leaking petrol. There is a leak and it is petrol. I've even found the source; the clear yellow tube that runs from the fuel pump goes nowhere! That is, the tube is attached to the fuel pump, goes down, and the other end is not attached to anything. And, petrol is leaking from here.

I am speaking of the bike being parked and not started for a few days. The fuel tap is pointing straight down (not sure where it should go (except I know Reserve as its marked R)).

I pulled off the gear cover in that area and I can not find for the life of me where this fuel line should go to.

Does anyone here have any ideas and can help me out?

I was not aware GN250's HAD a fuel pump ...

It will be an overflow from the carburator I would say. Sounds like the float is sticking ....


Turn the fuel tap to the OFF position untill you get it fixed/want to use it.

Hmm it's probably the carburator then.

2 questions:

1) This hose SHOULD be attached somewhere, right?
2) On the GN250 the OFF position is the horizontal one? (pointing straight ahead?)

1. No ... the overflow directs excess fuel directly onto the ground. BELOW the bike. Sometimes a tapping on the carb in question (a screwdriver or similar) will be enough to jar the offending float.

2. Refer to your owners hand book ...

Most modern motorcycles can have various settings on their fuel tap.

ON ... normal use.
OFF ... (speaks for itself)
RESERVE... (also speaks for itself)
PRIME ... on those that require a vaccum to operate the fuel tap :ie if the motor is not running, no fuel will flow if set to on/run. To bypass this ... set on PRIME. (Not reccomended for all situations)

Yup sounds like a sticky float.

GN has 3 fuel tap positions
-DOWN for normal use
-UP for reserve
-Horizontal for off (ie when parked)

+1 on the float, but giving it a tap may only temporarily fix it, you might want to remove the float chamber and check for crud in there. Not a particuarly difficult job.

I know this is an old thread, but just thought I'd say this has been helpful for me.

I've stopped it leaking now, but my garage needs airing out this morning after a night of regular dripping.

I need to buy a new fuel tap - mine has been screw-fixed into the Reserve position since I bought it. I tried taking the screw out and the tap fell apart, so I put it back together and left he screw in.
