Four of us had a good ride today from Kaiapoi up the Cust drain to top of Mt Thomas road and then back down beside the Ashley river in the tracks, there was a lot of trees down so we didn't get to do some of the tracks, we shifted branches to open up a couple of areas.

Into Rangiora for a pie and coffee then off over the Ashley bridge, hard left and up the North side of the river through various tracks then out on to the Ashley river up to the Okuku river and home.
Thanks to Ian, Peter, Carsten for a good day out.

Might have to run this in the dark for Carl TA

A couple if Pics, on the old bridge, shift trees, Beta on its side, to muddy for the stand to work, the guys riding through the hole.

Perfect weather, good bunch of guys.

Having only seen part of the route I was keen to go but it was someones birthday so had a nice day out visiting a few quiet sheltered beaches with the person whom just got older, and had a closer look at Ripapa Island from the kayaks instead of playing with you guys.

Yep, thanks for the great fun day! I'm not nearly as sore as I thought I'd be, whew.
Great tracks, I've not explored most of those places before, and nice company too, nice to meet you all.
Video to come soon assuming I can get permission from kla-dong's publicist

Yeah, just contact my public relation office. No compromising material, like me picking up the bike from the mud hole. Never happened.

I wonder if there will be in the future a way to have a nice day in the woods without providing more material for your Google/Stasi/NSA/SIS dossier ?

@Paul, would be nice if you would own all this

Lightbulb Suggestions for a 1/2 day ride

Looking for suggestions from the locals for a half day ride in the christchurch area on saturday the 7th february on the way home from Bike week.
Will be doing Lees Valley on the way to Bannockburn so thats out.

Planning on staying at Methven the night before and I need to fill in around 4-5 hours before catching a plane back to
Hamilton that afternoon ( Flying back to CH/CH a week later for a work conferrence and the DB ).

I thought that I had read about some good tracks on banks penninsula on this thread in the past but couldnt find the posts.

Dont want anything super technical as my rear tyre wont be too flash be that stage, and I would need to be on a plane at 2.30pm.

    Any route suggestions welcomed........
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

    Hi Mark,

You're not really going to have time to do a lot but you could either head from Methven up SH 77 to near Glentunnel, t/off towards Whiteclifffs and go thru Waianiwaniwa Rd to Sheffield then pickup Sh 73 to the Waimakariri gorge bridge then head to Christchurch along the south side of the Waimak River...just follow your nose, you won't get lost or...

Head to Little River then turn left soon after and take gravel road to Port Levy and back to Christchurch via Purau and Diamond harbour.
There are lots of other tracks on Banks Peninsula but given your flight departure etc can't see you having the time to go to far

    Rgds

    Waipara Gorge

Looking at doing a ride up to Waipara Gorge from Stringers bridge on Saturday afternoon if any is keen.

We will meet on the North side of the Kaiapoi shell shop and leave 12.30pm

If you haven't been there this is a picture of the gorge, it is a n awesome place and because the river is very low it is easy going.

let me know if you are keen

Sounds good to me, there is a bakery up the road if you want to take some play lunch with you.

Supposed to be 27 deg so cold drinks will be in order.

Hope you guys have a great day. We haven't made it to the Waipara River yet and hope to explore sometime soon. Our little fella rides a ttr 90 so would be good to know if the river levels are suitable for him to be on his own bike, or whether to take him as a pillion.

The gorge photos you posted look great. Is this the end of the trail or are the river levels so low that you can ride through the gorge?

    Have fun!
