The dream continues - Vic 2011

Much Thanks to the Crofts for the use of Sam’s KR150 for the first Vic round.
A little/long report for those interested.

With the economy being tight I decided that the risk of ‘trashing’ the Northwest M/c's Hyosung GT250r was a risk to great, and given the fact that with the tyre rule change in Prolites, we could no longer promote our Heidenau Tyres in that class, the ‘unfinished business’ in Streetstock 150’s was a call not to be denied.

Though I still have the bones of a KR150 racer, I lack a motor at this stage. And although the weight saving was generis... I’m not getting any younger, and pushing the bike around the track for round one didn’t appeal.

But luckily my relationship with the Croft family saw the offer of Sam’s Championship winning bike from last year placed beneath me to roll out on the Manfield circuit.
To save any damage to Sam’s freshly painted fairings, I changed the whole caboodle over to my Blue/White ‘RideLife’ kit for the day. And to give myself further advantage, placed my Heidenau shod wheels under the bike.
The lead up to race day saw some impressive entrees into the streetstock class. I would be facing off with some old hands. Billy on his RG. Neil on an RG and young Joel on a KRR amoust others. Things could get interesting I thought.

I rolled out on a damp track to do a few short laps of qualifying, (no point calling it practice is there), and tried to remember what Two Stroke racing is all about. Got to keep that little motor Revving!
Made a rooky mistake coming out of Dunlop in the first lap by taking it too tight, touching the wet white line on the inner edge of the track. The back wheel spun up, sending the bike into a violent side to side shake. The few spectators must have thought they were in for an early morning show of stupidity sliding down the track, but you learn a thing or two in a few years of racing, - don’t freeze up, - don’t panic, - ride it out, and get back on the throttle! An average qualifying time saw me 5th on a grid of 24 bikes, 3rd in class.

With a drying track, the three races saw me completing the day with a BT of 1:30, 3 seconds a lap better than I’ve ever done on one of my KR’s. And though #176 ‘The great white shark’ never showed his promise on the day, and ‘Billy’ disappeared into the distance on his RG125? /with Slick tyre on the back (what’s up with that Billy??), Some close racing with Joel, (a even Younger) Tyler and a couple of CBR250's made it a memorable day.

So second in class for the day.
Thanks to all involved in running a great meeting.
And thanks to Sam for the use of the mighty KR.

I would like to be there for the next round, but unless I sell a few bits, I can’t budget entry fees yet, let alone buy a motor, so we’ll have to wait and see.
I should be at the track either way, so
    See you out there!

    Whats up with what Alex,

The RG or the tyres????Was all explained to you last week,New rules start tomorrow officially,But if your worried I had an advantage,The rear slick is over 4 years old and the wet on the front is 7 years old that I know of,

I had dialogue with both the clerk of the course and the roadrace commission chairman and all was above board.

While we're on the subject,Wanna explain too me how your bike was legal when you turn up on the day and put wheels out of a later model KR into Sams bike,Who did you consult regarding that???

    Jeez Glen,

I wouldnt have thought you'd have time to be on the internet,Thought you'd have been to busy trying to get your SVR to last more than 3 laps at a time,Told you that Nitro methane would make it unreliableand at least I dont flatten the oppositions battery when I cant beat them Bwahahahahaha!!!

Oh and its 3'3" and 75lbs and Alex has already got a hiresack too ride LMFAO!!!!

Nah mate , im'e fat , old and slow - so have all the time in the world to park my fat arse in front of a puter & type away solving the worlds problems.

You make a good point re the proposal to shorten all races to 3 laps. This is all in the interst of safety of course as it would be dangerous to have me parked beside the track all broken down, leakin nitro and cryin all over the track aye.

Didnt realise that someone had found another victim to own/race a Hoorasung (did i spell that right?)

P.S - I paid you good money not to tell anyone about that easton sabotage trick of mine, (didnt work out in the end though did it.......... he obviously paid you even more.....)

Are you suggesting that's a issue? I've always run those wheels. They came with my first KR.
Best I get it sorted if it is. I will ask the MNZ steward next time I have them there.
They are the same diameter (18" rear) and width as the spoked ones. Still have a tubes in them. They just look 'prettier' than the spoke ones.

No, not worried. I was never gunna keep up with you no matter What you had on. But I was asked by someone what the ruling was on your setup.
Obviously the young guys/girls to the class are not going to dare ask 'Billy' if he is keeping within the rules! So it's up to us older Gents to make sure we are seen to be doing everything fairly.
"It's Not a good Look" as Bill English said.

Well the way the rule reads,I wouldnt think it was allowable,However as some of the RGs in the South Island also run FXR wheels and if they are the same diameter and width as the wire wheels,Then I doubt anything would be done about it as its theoretically of no advantage,The point was,You were implying I was running outside the rules,When I had made numerous phone calls and emails to the appropriate people to get it sorted and yet you turn up and ride a bike thats not strictly within the rules yourself.

Well I dont know why the younger ones wouldnt come and ask me,There wasnt anybody there I havent helped out or encouraged in some way,So its not like they cant talk to me,I would suggest the next time that happens you bring them over and I'll explain to them fully how and why I am running whatever set up I have and which are the best channels outside of me to get their info from.
