    Sunday Morning Program:

Now closed. Last ride was 18 March.

    About The Rides:
City And Sea Ride – This is a very pleasant ride around harbour and bays and a good start for the novice and returning rider.

Country and Hills Ride – This ride presents challenges: the Blue Mountains Road is a constant 1km climb with winding slow speed bends, and both Mangaroa and Wallaceville Hills present short sweeping corners both up and down each hill. Novice riders may want to consider exploring this ride with an accompanying rider beforehand.

I am very pleased to see the initiatives underway to have good social rides on Tuesdays with Mentors, this will be a good starting point for novices and returning riders and I encourage these riders to attend the Tuesday event.

As always ride your own ride.

    Hi there,

Just looking at your thread of the spring and summer rides.

Are these more catered for the experienced rider, or will it be okay for a newbie on a GN250?

    Gidday Bad Biker

I started out on a GN250 and as they say, I will not take you anywhere I haven't been before.

I have planned the rides so that they do increase in complexity. Generally however I hope that riders will be aware of the routes/regions beforehand, and perhaps may have ridden these before the event.

I have also encouraged endorsed Class 6 riders (Mentors) to participate and hopefully riders will get constructive feedback through the riding season.

    Regards

Hmmm! Does that make them 1 in 500,000 or a pair in a million??

Guy, your ride plan doesn't allow for the GC Long Weekend on 28-30 October, the C1KC on 12 November and the TT2000 on 25/26 February?....and a few conditioning rides.

Apologies, the heading should have been more specific.

I have asked moderator to amend Thread Heading to read:

25 Sept - First Program Ride: Belmont, Normandale and Korokoro

    September 2011
25 Sept Silverstream - Belmont, Normandale, Korokoro.

When - Sunday at 10.30am for 11am Departure – Silverstream
Where - “McDonalds Fergusson Drive” - Google It (Next to Mobil Service Station)

This is the first 11am Sunday Morning program ride for daylight saving 2011/2012.
And, if McDonalds is good for a coffee and breakfast see you there around 10.15am

I have chosen this route for the first ride for several reasons:

    1. Within the Belmont, Normandale and Korokoro section (see map) this is all within the 50kph limit.

    2. The ride requires 40 minutes of concerted riding effort, there is a mixture of road conditions from steep suburban hills to rural hills and narrowing roads.

    3. The ride is a “return ride” starting from Belmont going to Korokoro via Normandale and returning to Belmont on the same reverse route. (There is a diversion route that takes out some of the narrow winding section – Cottle Drive see map.)

    4. For those riding up from Wellington city and other areas, and not wanting to go all the way to Silverstream you can meet at the bottom of the Belmont Hills – (see map) at around 11am and wait for the riders to work off their breakfast as they ride down from Silverstream – should be there by 11.15am.

Though this is a relatively short programmed ride route, at the end of the ride a continuation ride out to Eastbourne, or over to Pauatahanui Inlet for a coffee is an optional plan.

If you care to join me for a ride, you will proceed with your own valid motorcycle licence, valid registered and warranted motorcycle, and be personally responsible for your own motorcycle riding safety. My personal expectation is that each person will ride in accordance with the road code and the rules governing their motorcycle licence. There will be no personal liability or responsibility on my part in respect of any rider that may join any of these rides.

    Ride your own ride.

Sunday 2nd October Ride Silverstream To Eastbourne

This is a real cruisie ride down the Hutt Valley to the harbour and out along to Eastbourne. As mentioned in the calendar link some riders may want to do a ride over the Wainuiomata Hill and back and onto Eastbourne.

From Eastbourne I will ride back along the Esplanade then turn right before the motorway and go past Petone rail station then over the motorway bridge across to Korokoro, Normandale and Belmont hills - there is a map link for this in the program at the first post in this thread.

Long Range Weather Forecast - Unfortunately not good at the moment.
If the ride is abandoned due to bad weather I will post up in this forum by 8.30am on the day.
