how bout just akaroa the weather mite not be nice to us all day lol
Righteo, I'm in chch now and am keen to take the bike out.
Message me if your headed out and don't mind another rider!!
Tim
I could do Kaikoura.
If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.
Okay, seems to be the general consensus is Kaikoura.
How do we want to get there? Straight up the coast or do we want to go up the middle? Its about 30 minutes longer up the middle and could be a bit icier if there is a frost floating around.
I'd be keen to try and get there for lunch time and find somewhere to eat. How about a meet up time of 930 and leave at 10? It's a bit earlier than usual but I don't want to be having lunch at 1pm since I have to be home and in bed by 4
I'm not sure what bike I'll be taking, probably the VFR if it doesn't look too frosty.
Metservice has updated the weather for Saturday. They're now forecasting late rain so we probably won't have to worry about frosts.
9.30 for 10 fine by me, happy with either route, meet at the peg?
Nurture your mind with great thoughts...like Bring It On
I road up to Kaikrora on Tuesday, the road from ChCh was good, couple of things to be aware of, the Omahi Saddle has road works on it.
I dont think they will be working on Sat but thats controlled by lights. the passing lane at the top is only one lane ATM.
On the Hundalee Rd at the (staircase?) three 25KPH corners, there are roadworks on the hill side verge, both lanes are open, but lots of dirt on the road surface. If wet, this could be slippery.
The last section of the Hundalees, has quite a bit of grit on it, especially the low speed corners, be aware windrows in the center of the lanes will kick your front out if you go to hard into the corners.
I would recommend Not doing the Lyford Rd, lots of grit , dirt from wash over, and road snails..( tourists going skiing )
Takes me 1 hr 40 on my 250 Keeway to do this, @ 100Kph,so yeah, a 4hr return ride would be about right, with a meal stop at Kaikora.
Apart from that Have fun.
To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid.
I could be keen to come along to this. Haven't been along for awhile sounds good. It is for Saturday aye?
Yeah it's this Saturday.
Since we're heading north, how about we meet up in woodend in front of the quad bike repair shop place. That way if it's a bit wet we have some cover too stand under.
