    Video onboard

Okay so I want to get video sorted out for daily rides. What's everyone using? Tried normal camera but vibration was an issue? How about something like a Flip Mino?

GoPro HD. All POV (point of view) cameras will have vibration issues. Some video editing software like iMovie can add stabilisation for the sake of some peripheral picture

You need to mount the camera to something rigid as rigidly as possible. Wobbly bits of fairing are no good. The further the camera is from the mounts point of contact the more flex & vibration you will get. I have mounted my go pro at the base of the fairing, no flex, & do not use an extension bracket. Tis tickety boo. Same on your helmet if you don't twitch.

GoPro all the way. I have also got an older Panasonic handycam (records to SD) and it was ok but the GoPro is waterproof and the video quality is heaps better.

On my V-Strom it's mounted on a ram ball on my clutch reservoir and on the Connie I have it on another ram ball on my handle bars. I have used the suction mount on one my panniers but have a hard time trusting it...

Going to try to make up some different mounts at some stage - would like one off one of the pillion pegs to get a nice low view down the bike...

Here's my Youtube channel, if you look through the vids a bit you'll be able to see the quality difference between the GoPro and the old camera. Just remember that on Youtube the video has been processed a few times and the quality lowered a lot when compared to the raw video from the camera.

If you're keen, I might sell my GoPro HD with headstrap (which I use to attach to my helmet), chest harness (use when mountain biking), suction cup mount (for car windscreen mounting), curved helmet mount, not sure where the flat mount is at the moment but I haven't used it, orange 'doohickey' to stop clicking noise if it's an issue (i've never used it), AV cable and component video out cable, 16gb Kingston SD card, closed and skeleton doors, LCD Bacpac with close and skeleton doors, storage pouch, original packaging. PM me me and make me an offer if you like. I just don't use it enough. Unfortunately, I don't take visa
Damn it, where's that flat mount?!

Thanks for the offer man but unfortunately its either visa or a swap for my Mrs. Actually, just checked with her and she's kinda fond of the kids so not keen on a swap at this stage. Will check with her again in another month when son number 3 arrives!

Does the Gopro have a microphone plug? How do you limit the wind noise?

Yea, I have both Vio Pov 1.5 vidcam as well as a Drift HD ..... what I like about these apart from both having an LCD viewfinder/ monitor screen, you can screw a Ram ball directly into the tripod screw thread. So apart from being attached solidly onto the camera body, the Ram system allows it to be mounted almost anywhere on the bike without excessive vibration. I somehow think attaching the same thing onto the long GoPro stalk being plastic an' all not quite so reassuring in terms of minimising vibration. That's my take..... and I must add having a spare Ram ball poking out from the bottom LHS engine mount off the Duc gives an interesting angle for a camera to aimed at the front wheel and suspension movement...!

Just on the subject, does anyone know anything about Contour cameras? One of the local shops was trying to tell me they were the bees knees but I know nothing about them...

They are pretty good, as is the Go Pro...as another option the Tachyon HD is fantastic value for money too. All my vids are done on the Tachyon, the old one however that wasn't HD...the new ones are. Planning on getting one shortly.
