Riding with a Gopro

So I'm back on the bike after a few years off and I'm starting to remember how much some cagers hate us.
Last week I has some clown swerve into the bus lane just as I was coming along then back into his lane when I slowed down.
When I passed him he and his passenger were having a good chuckle about it.
From reading previous posts on here it seems that the most likely situation if you lay a formal complaint is that the muppet gets sent a strongly worded wet bus ticket as its your word against his.
What I'm wondering is, would that situation change if you had video of the incident? I have a Gopro I use for other sports and it wouldn't be hard to have it recording the whole time you ride. If nothing of note happens then you delete the footage once a week and start again.

So many drivers fail to notice motorbikes in general, yet they manage to notice a tiny camera somewhere on the bike itself?

I had a situation the other night where a driver in a SUV almost took me out by trying to overtake me while I was turning right.
Had my gopro on my helmet which recorded the whole thing.

Driver was heading in the same direction and was driving pretty erratically and eventually stopped on the side of the road, and began to follow me very closely once I had passed him. I pulled over and he pulled next to me and began to verbally abuse me and said I was riding like a maniac. I explained that he was in fact the maniac, and that I had video evidence of this, and furthermore that I was recording him yelling at me right now. He promptly left but I will be compiling the video and filing a complaint with the Police.

Times like these I'm glad I bought the gopro

unless you actually caught good footage on an accident that actually caused damage or harm, it wouldnt matter.

The cops dont give a fuck about the near misses etc, it doesnt seem worth their time to run around after a thing that almost happened.
focus your attention on the traffic and forget about the camera.

Yeh I'd be surprised if the cops did anything about it, unless there were a lot of different instances on record.

Wonder if a public name and shame would be of more use?

It was more for the fact that he's a lunatic; why would someone stalk a motorcyclist and yell abuse at them for no reason?
The video shows I'm being completely calm and riding fine.
He suggested that it was my fault as because I'm more vulnerable I should be looking out more...for idiot drivers like him. It was my shoulder check that saved my ass from ending up under his vehicle

problem is he said/she said on the internet.
and if the accused 'offender' is a non-biker, theyd have no idea they're being discussed on a biker site, and wouldnt have the chance to give their side.
theres always three sides to every story. his side, her side, and the truth. The later of which generally lies somewhere in the middle.

More or less what I was thinking. You could even take a lot of the footage, and add some non-douchebag footage, and use it to test/enhance users defensive driving awareness, which in many cases is just non existant.

If it didnt kill you, brush yourself off and move on. its easy to wank on about 'this cunt did that' or 'ass hole cut me off' etc etc, but think about how many times YOUR driving/riding has pissed other road users off without you even realising it.

Agreed, we all make mistakes, the smart ones learn and don't do it again. The even smarter ones learn from other's mistakes so they avoid doing the same, only to find new and improved cock-ups. Having your mistakes plastered on the interweb for ever makes you angry and that interferes with learning.

I'd say why not film everything if you've got the tools?

A certain video comes to mind with those two bikers in the US riding along some nice twisties when that hillbilly in the red truck tries to hit the first biker off the road and starts to chase him dangerously - while the following biker is recording everything. If I recall correctly, the hillbilly ended up getting charged for it.

I don't have flash/java installed right now to find the video online - but it was spread to a lot of websites.
