Lucky I was cautious

Had a great ride around East Cape last weekend, on the whole the traffic was good.
Except for one plonker.
I had been riding about 50 metres behind this little car, just east of Tekaha, when he pulled to the left as though he was going to stop on the road side, I was cautious and slowed as the car had not indicated, just as I was turning the throttle to overtake the car when it did a right angle turn up a driveway on the other side of the road. I didnt have time to hit the horn, I just braked and just swerved behind it.

Had I not been extra cautious this could have stuffed my trip altogether.

My purpose for the thread is just reinforcing how cautious you have to be as biker.

Yeah seems to bee a bit of an endemic NZ driving issue that one, having to swing wide too get into driveways and the like. Actually, as you have to actively look for cars that don't have power steering these days, there is no reason to do this any more. But hey, just cos you don't have to, doesn't mean you should stop driving badly...

I don't think you had a "lucky" escape, I think you did everything right ... the car driver had a lucky escape and they will just do it again too!

ACC and the law makers are focussed on the wrong group!

The driver probably (a) has no licence or (b) does not have a 'proper' one.

Pretty common up there.

Not lucky as you thought about it ,my moto is after ( hiting a car) in the past, Is if thought come into you head act on right then and there

Hay you might braked for no reason but what does that matter anyway, id rather that that siting on ground or years alter thinking what if i did

this my bike whoudint be wreaked , i dont think of it as oh wish that dude didnt do that id look what i choud done to avoid the accident

What i have seen is alot drivers pull over to left so get good swing at wheel to turn around fast,

Well done always think whats worst the driver in front can do and act like he is going to if you coming up to drive

I really dislike ones that creep out with wheels slowly turning like in such rush they cant wait still before you pass by

Look to see they hand postion on the steering wheel but more so where all people and not like drivers are

Out to get us just we all can make mistakes i caused accident myself rode out infront car got bumped of was okay

But anoyyed id made mistake i have never repeated touch wood

Good road craft, if your in a WTF is going to happen next situation, you stay out the way. I would count that as a win & put another digicus impudicus sticker on my fairing.

Luck had nothing to do with it. You anticpated and was aware of something and reacted accordingly when that very thing happened.
