I too would like to say , "well Done". Not, you had a lucky escape! You waited, you gave yourself time, that's what staying alive on a motorcycle is all about, again Well Done.
Exactly. Riding is not something to be done with brain dis-engaged. If caution requires that you ease off the throttle and give yourself that extra space, then so be it. Road hazards are all over the place, and not just sitting behind the steering wheel of a car. Good on you for being a thinking rider.

I'd hate to ever have to admit that my arse had been owned by a Princess.

Meh, it's wing mirrors, or the driver window if your gloves are armoured sufficiently.

Is that god awful detour west of Omio still there? the one with really tight bends and great lumps of road metal. Bloody hated it last febuary, what with all the luggage and the wife on the back.

    Cautious.. I was

I am now a cautious rider, but I am getting older too, hopefully wiser, but maybe my reactions are not quite as quick as they used to be. So it goes that when you get into your 60's that you take it easier.
    Than when you were 20.
That is the the thing I kept thinking about after that incident, that when I was a gung ho 20 year old I would "probably' just have tried to accelerate past that car, just as I know plenty of my fellow riders I sometimes ride with would have done.
I was also wearing a Bright yellow Hivis much to the consternation of my fellow rider.
This is something that I don't mind doing now which I would not have done when I was young and cooler!!. Not that it would have helped in this incident.
