Cancer Society Ride Relay Saturday 3 March 2012

    Date: Saturday March 3rd 2012.
    YES ON MOTORBIKES.

I want your help in making this event happen and to be successful.
Some of you will know, Tony Mills (ynot slow) is dealing with Terminal Cancer at the moment.
He is the inspiration behind this Ride Relay. (non stop)
Tony knows about this ride, the Cancer Society know about this ride, they are both are really happy to help in anyway they can.
March 3rd 2012. Is the date that the Cancer Society will be holding a 24 hr walk/run relay on the North Shore to raise money. (Nationally on other dates)

    http://www.relayforlife.org.nz/event/event?EventID=128

A group of us will have a team entered in that event on the day.
A Baton Ride Relay will commence from Wellington to the North Shore at the Millennium Institute of Sport & Health Antares Place Mairangi Bay Auckland ...(not asking for any fund raising) on the date mentioned. Saturday March 3rd 2012.
    Start time 7am
PM’s were sent out last night to twelve people who I would like to be the Baton Buddy’s
The response so far from those pm's have been amazing..
Each and everyone of you can ride as much or as little as you want on the day.
Paul (Paul in NZ) will kick things off from Wellington.
The Batons will split at Sanson, one heading North West to the Taranaki.
The other will head East to Palmerston North and onto the Hawkes Bay.
We will get the batons to you.
All official in accordance with the Cancer Society. They are behind this 100%

Something Maureen Miller from The Cancer Society said in her email.
''My Dad was a motorbike enthusiast, in his later years he used to ride down on his old Matchie to the vintage get together in Pukekohe. Think one of his biggest thrills was when he got to ride the Isle of Man TT circuit on the back of a distant cousins BMW. As a child I got to know places like Cust and Wanganui well''
She is over the moon with the idea of this ride.

Remember, this ride is something we can all do for Tony.
More info will be added when I think of it.
Any question? Feel free to ask, if I can answer them, I will.

    Mark.
I will be back in approximately 33.3564 picoseconds

    Baton Carriers.

*Closer to the time, make sure you have a contact number of the baton receiver ahead of you.*

Paul (Paul in NZ) - Wellington
    Al (86GSXR) - Pamerston North
    Barry (DogsnBikes) - Wanganui
    John (MSTRS) - Napier
    Steve (Katman) - Taupo
    Marty (Martybabe) - New Plymouth
    Kerry (kb_SF1) - Hamilton
Alan (Gremlin) - Everywhere...I can support the guys on the day, for the entire trip.
    John (NZ Sarge) - Danniverke
    Bill (Sinfull) - Horowhenua

    *THE BATONS*
A couple of members have had the same idea about the Batons and I will leave that up to them to sort out.
More on that in the New Year...

Those that carry the Baton will decide the route they will take to get the Baton to the next carrier.
Also, keep in touch with the person ahead that they are handing it over to (via text/call etc)
The person ahead will need to know an estimated time of arrival, and place for the hand over.
The hand over point can be appointed by the person ahead.

My Suzuki not a bike but the Bears would be keen to be a part of it if we can tag along either in the Kizashi or the MX5 for a bit. We'll keep in touch and see how things develop between now and then. Do pass on to Tony our love and concern. It was nice to meet him when he visited with you!

    Good on you Paul.

I was mad enough to suggest we walked for Tony, now look what has happened

I can see this one being a biggie, lets hope that fat bugger Tony is still well enough to hold my hand on the last lap, I may well need his help

Dead keen as well. I've let slofox know and I'll have a talk to our boss and some others at the company and see if we can get a decent group. This is so what we're in too. In fact, I'd be bloody disappointed if we couldn't get at least 4 bikes from work alone.

What an awesome idea, huge respect to you Mark and Anne and to all others who will be involved.

I've just dropped the man himself at his Mum's, a lovely lady, in Wanga's and I'd like to pay tribute to Tony and the incredible attitude he is displaying toward this latest and cruelest turn of events. His strength and courage are nothing short of amazing and his sense of humour is in fine flight. This is the strength that has taken him this far and which will ensure he will never be beaten.

    Total respect to you Tony
It's only Rock and Roll but I like it
