    Rydges Hotel, Auckland

    Anyone stayed here recently?

'erself and I are in Auckland for a dir....OOPS! I mean, BIRTHDAY PARTY this Saturday and I'm looking to stay in this joint if it is OK. Reviews seem good but who knows how much the referees were paid to say what they did..?

    Direct experiences more betterer.

    Anyone?

I can only comment on two other Hotels - The Hilton and Quay West.

The Hilton is nice, great food and they go out of their way to make you happy.

Quay West - Shit, in every way.

Never been to the Rydges unfortunately.
Rest in peace Tony - you will be missed.

    T'anx anyway bro...

Rydges has the major advantage of being a 1 minute walk from the party venue...

Hey Slofox, knowing your age and condition wouldn't it be more prudent to book accomodation here?

Well i can tell you that the Quadrant is a great place to stay, also Quest Apartments on upper queen street is great, but avoid all the other Quest facilities in the CBD,as you get a lot of road noise.

I have also stayed at the Skycity Grand Hotel, which was awesome!

They've spent a bit of money doing it up in the last few years. IT was already tidy beforehand.

Not at the oppulent end of the market, but still above average in many respects. I haven't stayed there since the modernisation, so can't comment.

Last places I stayed were The Langham and "Saddam Palace" (aka The Rendezvous)

I had a strange dream myself. You know that game some folk play on the streets where they toss coins at the wall and what not? In my dream they were tossing my semi hardened stool at the wall. I shit you not.

Not bad overall. As stated, not at the top end of the market but sufficient unto the day, being clean and comfortable.

Slight glitch to start with when they tried to shove us into an inferior room despite me having paid for a better one. Visit back to the desk fixed this and we ended up in a pretty classy outift with a nice view over the harbour (see pic). Oh and it had a monstrous huge super king bed that made for a very comfortable sleep.

If you were on a budget you wouldn't to avail yourself of the minibar...but then most places are like that anyway.

Bit sparse on the in-room coffee etc. Only four sachets of coffee. Given that I'd scoff those in two cups, it was just as well that 'erself drank tea.

The birthday party Sat night was a bit of a rave. Good time had by all.

    Good value for money.
