Hamilton bike parking: your input needed

    Hi all,

I have a meeting tomorrow with Hamilton City Council's transport and parking services manager, who has warmed hugely to the idea of branding Hamilton as a city friendly to bikers and moped riders (no longer just pushbikes). As a first step, he wants to re-vamp the Hamilton motorbike/scooter parking areas, and wants some input for CBD locations.

At present, there's stuff-all dedicated bike/scooter parking, but with your input, this will change.

If you read this post before 10:30am tomorrow, could you please reply with your ideas for some biker parking spots.
    Please act fast.

    Cheers
    David

The CBD's not that bad is it? There's Alma St, Victoria St by Ronnie's Cafe, Victoria St by Snapshot Cameras, Barton St, Worley Place.

I guess there could be more, and each parking area only fits 3-4 bikes. I hardly ever go to the CBD any more so I don't really find it an issue.

Maybe get a few more including each end of Anglesea St?

Indeed I don't think it is really a major issue. From what I understand you can also park for free in the farmers carpark.

From those listed you can access everywhere in the CBD within a couple of minutes walk from your bike.

Im not from Ham so cant comment specifically but I would suggest that you embrace this and the biker freindly city idea. Its not often we get anyone pro biker in any sort of position of power.

I would suggest perhaps some motorcycle parking around garden place but seen as that just appears to be a place for homeless/jobless people to hang out perhaps it's not a good idea at all.

I have rarely come across a full motorcycle spot in Hamilton. I certainly wouldn't want to park my bike on the street all day if I worked in the CBD.

There needs to be more at the north end of town. Only because I went up that end yesterday and couldn't find anything that I could slot the steed into. Ended up going around the back of the buildings (on Victoria Street), finding a massive private carpark, and sitting the bike neatly on a "triangle" painted area between carparks.

The wife and I use the bike parks on the south end all the time. Bloody handy. Just need the north covered and we'll be away laughing.
