..or...A Dragon in my pond.
Last night Jan received a text from the neighbours saying that there was a disturbance in our back yard.
As I headed out of the laundry door I heard scuttling and figured it was a Possum. The dog took off like it was one too.
Closer examination found a medium size Australian Green Tree Frog - around 100mm nose to tail nestled in the frangipani tree. I thought he may have even been the cause of the ruckus and went back inside.
This afternoon I was pottering around in the courtyard and all of a sudden there is activity coming my way in a hurry. Wha...the...
Around the corner of the house appears a medium size Water Dragon up on its rear legs, in full flight, doing that cartoon lost traction running sideways action, with the dog, also in a '4-wheel' drift across the patterned concrete, hot in pursuit.
The Lizard sees me, spots the gap and darts between the panes of the pool fence and dives straight to the bottom of the deep end.
The dog rounds the gate and launches into the pool after it, but he hasn't learned how to dive, so engages in destroyer-like tactics sweeping the last known co-ordinates from above.
I called off the dog and left a few ramps in the pool for the reptile to extract itself, but it wasn't going anywhere in a hurry.
By the time I decided it was time to evict it forcibly with the net it was a bit sluggish, but after a few minutes in the shrubs it scuttled away seemingly none the worse.
Beautiful creatures. Graceful swimmers too. There was an underwater chase scene that didn't make it to video.
