Hey Scotty, chucked Pete's FXR on the dyno, came with that XL carb and a 122 mj. Put the 5" trumpet on and it wouldn't pull the gear. 128 ran through but lumpy. 130 fell over totally, 125 totally. Took trumpet off all OK. Changed to 118 ran same as 122. Trumpet back on, fell over. You did say the long one yeah?
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.

Cool, oh well, something for him to shop for. thanks.

yeah that carb is 26mm wide but oval bored to like 32mm. Crazy 4 stroke stuff I guess. We connected that accel pump up which seemed to help throttle on. just gives a tiny squirt when pushed.

Kyle had great sucess on his carb with a really short stack formed from a bit of PVC pipe.
He's running quite a different carb though, Mikuni TM28 I think.

Different states of tune seem to like different trumpet lengths? My original FXR with moderate mods liked a 3' trumpet & std airbox but with the full monty it liked the shortest trumpet we could find which was like 10mm. Incidentally putting a 50mm K&N round pod filter on in place of the short trumpet made no difference so I kept the filter.

Haven't had my current GPR FXR on the dyno. Must do that one day to see how it compares and to get the best from it. Cheers.
Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!

a 3 foot long trumpet would be sticking out past the tailpiece, I guess you could coil it up like a French horn
My neighbours diary says I have boundary issues

OK how to make a inlet trumpet.
Get a trumpet , make a bog pattern of the inside, tidy up and sand, put fiberglass on , more sanding and hammering, done

    Lucky last...

Another view of that final race. Scott does it tough. Ken does it tougher...
