I'm confused. What's the etiquette with a Can Am 3-wheel thing?

Went for a blat today and ended up behind one of those two wheel at the front and one at the back things. Do you treat them like a "normal" bike and be all polite and stuff or do you treat it like a car and fuck it up the fuckity-fuck first chance you get and zip by it? Also, do you give them the biker wave or is that reserved for two wheels?

Any interaction is with the rider, not the machine, surely. And people ride those things for a variety of reasons...all of which are much the same as the reasons for riding 2 wheels. So why would you even ask?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Rego'ed as a car, car license only required, more than two wheels = car.

I must have missed that meeting. When are you meant to be polite to a 'normal' bike?

I have a mate with one of these - it is great in the sand dunes, but we really need to wait for it to get a bit older.
Here is one though: If it is registered as a car, why does it not have to be fitted with seat belts, and why do you not have to use them?

They are registered as cars under the NZ vehicle registration system. That is because NZ's system does not have another way to cater for those vehicles design.

But it's the only system we have ... so we use it.

Not a rider. a Faux rider.

its not a bike. the 'bi' part means 2 wheels. 'Farmbikes' for example is a misnomer. They are utility vehicles.
Don't you look at my accountant.

That sounds reasonable, but how can you allow a car which does not need to be fitted with seat belts when all others do??

    Yes, yes, but...

The 'operator' sits ON it, must wear a helmet, would be wise to wear all other gear as well, is just as exposed to the elements as a PTW rider ... etc
I know people who ride Spyders because they no longer feel able to support the weight of a motorcycle, yet they do not want to give up the (almost) riding experience.
    So there...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
