    Honda CX500 loss of power

    Hi all,

This is my first post, unfortunately it's a negative one.

    I have a 1980 cx500 E (84,000kms). It has been running fine, until today.

The engine has always had a ticking noise, that got louder today. The temperature also slowly crept up to a few mm above optimum (about the middle).
I also noticed power significantly decreased to the point where I pulled over and walked home.

It had oil, and water. Any ideas on what has happened?
I'm hoping like hell its not a big end or a 'about to seize', I drained the oil once I got it home on a trailer - nothing out of the ordinary.

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Angus

Head over to the CX Forum, they helped me tremendously when I had a mighty CX500 when it shat itself!

On mine the fan flogged out, it's shaft driven directly from the engine, checking involoves removal of the radiator which isn't a biggie. It heated up and also made some louder than normal ticking noises... ask on the CX site and you will get help I'm sure.

Thanks for that, it has been suggested that I may have lost spark to a cylinder. Hopefully not a biggy.
Can anyone recommend a mechanic in CHCH with cx500 knowledge?
