A good ride is the rimutaka incline, the gradient is good.if you want to make a day of it you could head through to cross creek and have a picnic.the ride back to kaitoke would be harder

I emailed that to some friends of mine who "enjoy" cyclocross

Yep, cyclocross is like the top of that first long incline of a MTB race. For a whole hour

7 busted rear derailleur's in that race yesterday.

New brake install - first impressions

I finally have photos of the shiny new brakes on my not-shiny not-new bike

As hoped, the brakes (Tektro R559) did bolt straight on, and the levers (Shimano Tigara R550) are indeed a good choice for flat bars and caliper brakes. I also installed new stainless cables.
So I now have really nice brakes, that are easy to adjust, and actually work (neither of these were true for the previous brakes).

The next step is the Josie-and-the-pussycats (or similar) themed paint job. and maybe brazing on some cable stops, so I don't have to zip tie my rear brake cable in place.

Just in from a 17km ride around Bottle Lake, 3/4 the way into it we find a guy coming the other way down the track, "Do you guys know the way out of here? he asks as tempting as it was to tell him to keep going for a few km we told him to follow us and led him back to the carpark saving him from almost certain death in the wilds of Christchurch
