OK it's official I've eaten too many pies.
Got all messed up over a jump going down turners - suspension all wallowy, ended up landing on the back of the saddle bending the seat rails. Bugger I really liked that seat.
Luckily CRC have good deals going $50 delivered vs $160 local.

Sounds like at least you didn't bend the seat rails with your ribs. I can now advise from personal experience it's a bad idea

Bent the rails semi back to position. Kinda got bit of a quasimodo style of riding now tho.

One of the last trails at Redwoods. Big jump, rolled over, came into a little double too quick and landed on the 2nd pretty damn hard. Went off the back of the bike (still holding bars), landed on the seat (most of my weight) with my ribs. Lots of gasping having winded myself. 4-5 weeks before I could lie on my stomach in bed, another week before it was pretty much back to normal. Didn't bother going to A&E as they can't do much. Based on the recovery, bruised/cracked ribs is pretty likely (comparing to others).

Heading out again the very next day wasn't the smartest idea, every bump hurt, couldn't breathe properly

Tried straightening the rails, but they seemed so soft, figured they'd bend again on the first bump. Bought another seat from a Rotorua shop the next morning. Oh, and scraped that one up the same day or next, pulling a wheelie and falling off the back... Rotorua was memorable for me

Ha I can relate to that. Twenty years ago went over a doubles in Redwoods that had just been built showing off to my then girlfriend/ now wife. Hit the second one with front wheel, over the handlebars landed on my ribs cracking some.
The pita was I had been training for months for the Rotorua marathon (my first) & had put the entry in the post that bloody morning - couldn't do the run & got no money back.

It's almost like we need some kind of protection on our chests like two big fleshy bumps or something...

More advice... how do you deal with long grass?
I've got a small 4 wheel drive track on my city route and I seem to spend most of my time digging clumps of grass out of the chain etc, I thought these were supposed to do off road?
Bike doesn't like knee deep mud puddles as well, mind you I'm not too enthusiastic either.
