I reckon most people have to sorta go through it. Plenty lust after the high power bikes. Some stay... some don't. One of the most frustrating things I found was trundling along, knowing the bike could do triple the current speed.

As long as it has some overtaking punch for now and then... I need my licence more than a high speed thrill...

This guy explains it probably better than anyone. If this doesn't directly answer your question nothing will.

This is why I own a busa...

Owned my 99 'Bird' for 7yrs now brought it at 42k now has 212,000 & still going strong, have custom this & that as you do.... Had a 07' ZX14 but had to sell due to issues at home have been thinking of getting another ZX as I liked it but didn't spend enough time on it to get to know it. The hard thing is deciding what to get ( Now i'm looking at adventure style bike for the mancave ) I love touring & endurance events (1000milers etc ) but still like pushing sportys along On Any Sunday, any of the 3 mentioned will make you wet yourself if you let it plenty of good advice here for you to mull over, Good luck with your choice
I Used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass

There's plenty of information and reviews about the bikes you're looking at online so I guess all you're really after from KB is people telling you to buy what they already own. On those lines...

There could be a very simple answer to your question right here.^^^

There are no real downsides to a Busa, it'll handle the ride to work each day just as easily as it'll rip across the country as fast as you dare and then some. It won't change direction quite like a GSXR that weighs 50kg less but unless you ride one of those regularly you won't notice that.

A Blackbird or a ZX12 might be a better bike but will owning one cross the Hayabusa off your list of bikes you want to own before you die? Don't take the risk, just buy the one you already know you want.

The drag race video was interesting - I'd have liked a 1/2 mile run as I see the Busa was gaining ground fast at the end of the 1/4 mile.

    Salt Lake drag race?

Does it even matter at that level other than over a beer in the pub?

?? the terminal speed at the quarter was 146 14r and 142 busa. That's not gaining ground its 4mph slower across the line so the gap is getting larger.

It depends what drag clips you watch also as to the results.

Aus run on the zx14r in stock form less the speed restrictor has the 14r reaching 202mph at the 1 mile mark.

Theres also a lot of safety maps on the zx14r in 5th and 6th gear and a safety stp map for over acceleration. Different bike once restrictors removed.

I think the OP is looking to spend a little less than the price of a new zx14r.
The 12r is a great bike for the cost of buying one. That's why I suggested it as an option.

Not ready to jump yet but always wanted a Busa, then I recently tripped over Blackbirds which I think I prefer. That mainly due to a slightly more relaxed riding position.

Have heard the Busa called the fat mans sportsbike. Which in my case fits.
Back to the script . I've never had a Blackbird but spent some time on one a while back, they do have some comfort advantage over a Busa for sure. I'm on my third Busa now and they're Ok , just don't expect them to be a good fit when you're in congested traffic or as a commuting tool. For the money and, if that's you're two options given the price range, I'd go for a very well looked after Blackbird ( if there's any around ) if not there's still a few low mileage G1 Busa's out there, as always caveat emptor.

Busa's the bike if you want street cred and the bike you'll get home on and grab a beer and go and have another look at it in your garage.

Blackbird you'll park it up and go and turn the telly on, if you know what I mean.

None of the bike vs bike stuff means anything unless the variables are taken out of the equasion, bragging rights, ie: "mine is bigger/faster/stonger than yours" only has legitimate value when everything is equal. If you turned up at the track on a Blackbird or ZX12, i'll beat the pants off you and make your bike look slow, when in fact it is not slow. Then we go to the drag strip and you make my bike look like it's dragging an anchour. Neither bike is slow, at the dragstrip on any given day, the result could be different,

The choice should come down to how it looks to you, how it feels, and in this case, weather you want to own a ledgendary icon, or just another big fast supertourer.............

And that's the answer to it there. I would like something as you say I can grab a beer and go back out and look at. I think your right on the Blackbird. Not sure on the Busa. ZX12 is the leading contender.

ZX14, I don't like the look for some reason.
