Buying adventure parts, clothing, helmets and anything overseas

Kick this off and we can maybe make this a sticky sort of like deals to be made, where to go for the best items and prices.
I know we have had numerous posts and such like, but maybe this is somewhere we could condense.
So, how much you gonna pay the NZ Government?
    Handy little tool here.

For my XR600 93-2000 parts i go to
    Bikebandit.com
    Thumpertalk.com
    XRsonly.com
    Ballards XRs only.com.au
when i rebuilt the pig 90% came from bike bandit, even with the over excessive customs duty and postage it still saved me a couple of K.
i dont bother with helmets and ride gear from overseas any more as i find sizing differences can turn into a right royal pain if the fit aint right.

good idea for a thread mate

Thanks and maybe when you post we could also include the Make of the bikes and if needed a particular model, year if it is a difficult source to find parts or bits etc...
This thread could also be used for clothing that may be bought for ADV riding where Tofu eating riders buy and also the Roast dinners, Meat and Two Veg kinda guy...
AND helmets, gloves, spare parts etc....The list is endless.....
A one stop shop or shopping list of places for us ADV riders to find....all in one place.

If you're buying from the US or UK, get yourself a NZPost YouShop:

    http://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/youshop

It gives you a US address, and you can get stuff from Ebay or other sites that won't/can't ship internationally (KTM Parts).
    It works a treat.

Nice, I have done that in the past but third parties have really stung you for duties...sort of negates the so called benefits.

The stuff I bought was inter-state, so local sales tax didn't apply.
KTM bits in the US are like half NZ prices.
It was shipped from the NZPO place in the US without GST.

They give you a unique US (or UK) address, so you have that as your Amazon address.
The last thing I bought from Amazon (a DVD) was shipped free to my YouPost address (coz it was in the States) and then NZPO on shipped it.
    No local taxes or GST.

So it works out cheaper right?
I just watched an item on eBay, a Garmin Street Pilot 2610, almost brand new. It went for $29.99 USD, with $11.99 postage. To NZ, this stupid Global Shipping Programme that they sometimes apply, the shipping was over $90 NZD! AND sometimes they actually have customs duty, when there obviously shouldn't be.
I have joined this NZ Post Scheme just now thanks to you...(good or bad, I dunno) yet....
    We will see what happens

excellent Idea. I have had great service from Rally Raid UK who supply custom bits and pieces for the 690 and 9XX. Good pricing and real quick delivery.

I will be needing all new riding gear shortly so will watch this thread with interest.
    ....wherezz that track go

Having brought quite a bit from the states and UK car and bike bits as you get thoroughly shafted here particularly euro car parts but the freight can sometimes be ridiculously high, anyone used NZ post through the method in this thread and have any freight cost examples ?

I bought a Shoei Multitec helmet from fcmoto.de a year ago. Delivered to my door by DHL for $450 (NZ). I like to buy local but that would have cost $950!
No GST or duty. No why does a helmet made in Japan, exported to Germany and reshipped to NZ cost half that of the helmet sent direct to NZ?
I agree with fitting. I had a previous Shoei helmet, so bought the same size. Out of principle, I won't try on something in a shop and buy elsewhere.

I don't adventure ride but use YouShop all the time for both motorcycle and domestic stuff and have never once been hit for duty. I'd guess that overall, my costs have been at least 30 percent less than NZ. Had a complete set of Circulon pots and pans shipped over a few weeks ago for our daughter's wedding and even with their volume and weight, total cost was only about 60 percent of NZ. My wife just bought some Teva sandals for under $70 delivered and my Levi 505’s are a tad cheaper than that. YouShop now have a UK warehouse too but I've never used that service.

Can't believe no ones mentioned http://www.procycle.us/bikepages/dr650.html yet very good service, shipping costs have been reasonable.
Also recently used http://www.motosport.com/NZ/home good communication, fast and cheap shipping.

Very disappointed with Youshop, you don't end up saving much in the end unless its via one of those place like bikebandit with their ridiculous min $100 international shipping. Have found the turnaround time with youshop a drag, items can spend three days there before they leave and couple with cheap (slow) ground shipping from US supplier to them it can all add up timewise...

Currently waiting on some moped parts from Wemoto UK, finally got email back from them recently, very slow on communication initially after first enquiry...

Small package of camera parts. Direct from supplier would have been $USA 48 and here in four days. Via ground shipping from them east coast NY) and youshop was $USA 8 plus $NZD 28 but took about two and a half weeks... So when you factor the much slower service its not really dramatically cheaper...

Another small package from another USA supplier, would have been about USA$ 50. Via free ground shipping to you shop then $NZD 22 to here.

Small package from motorsport.com direct via their shipping $USA 16, here in four days! We should just support the places like them that don't muck us about.
