Everyone will have different opinion on "who is the best" so you may get alot of different answers.

When I had my Hornet I took it to Spectrum Motorcycles on the Shore. Fan-farking-tastic service.

The bearings may not actually need replacement. Sometimes it just needs to be tightened and it's all good. I know this because I was in exactly the same position with my CBR250 and GSXR600 for steering head WOF fails.

Most shops are going to be busy as it's the summer period. You can certainly book in and then get it done.

I'd suggest a Honda shop, as they would deal with them constantly, so know what they're looking at. I use Botany Honda for my CB900.

Since you're "central" Auckland I'd suggest AJ at MotoHaus (underneath Motomail - down the ramp).

As has been said, he is busy but if they do only require tightening not replacing he may be able to get it in.

Shoulda gone there for the WoF too... just saying...

Do the forks need to come off regardless?

Toby Beadle at Auckland Motorcycle Services has just done the head bearings on my BMW R80RT and all good.

To check/adjust the stem bearings you do not have to remove the forks.
You can undo the nuts and re-grease and/ or inspect the races by removing the upper triple tee and letting it slide down a few inches.
There are two bearings upper and lower that fit into the tees.
Look up the torque values and re-assemble as per the specs.
You will need some skill, a torque wrench and sockets and grease, and a method of raising the bike so the front wheel is off the ground.
There are numerous u-tube videos on how to..
If the bearings need to be replaced the whole front end needs to come off and the bearings removed and re-fitted to the tees.
Have a look and see if its for you.
