A collection of small cc (excluding the GSXR750) 2 and 4 stroke bikes.

The GSXR looks to be an '85 model, not an '87 even though the rego comes back as '87. The 85 had the R level with the top edge of the tank and the cut back fairing by the front wheel plus the three slats in the side fairing, whereas rthe '86 and 87 the R followed the line of the stripe, had the front fairing curve more towards the front tyre and lost the three slats.

Was offered a YDS3 Yamaha a few years ago from a mate,which turns out to be cheap today. We found it in a chook run in Adelaide in 1983 . Mate restored it over here.
But really for me it was just sentimental and the poor thing would have gathered dust in a corner of the garage ??

Trouble is I know what they are because I've seen them in a resto magazine, and recall they were covered by an RD Air-cooled Haynes manual I had . But I've never seen one going that I recall. People my age may look for an RD, or more likely an RZ. People younger than me won't care about 2 Stroke Era and want what they had. Market shrinks and prices must come down.

Only an investment if you know where to get off. And you don't get caught by some green initiative that makes them, or all gas burners, unridable.

The A1 Kawa caught my eye. Going to go in and have a look at it today. just so I can offer an opinion if someone asks me......

I've built race bikes from less promising beginnings. But do I want another project ?


The rags in the carbs brought back a memory too. First time I met a local racer friend of DD's was at Wigram where he was rebuilding the top end of a 7R after he'd fired it - or tried - with a rag in the carb. Next year, same meeting, he's taking an A1R apart to get rags out of it.
