One of the Brit bike pundits restored a bevel drive similar to that. His might have had alloy rims and spokes? He did a beautiful job - no shortcuts, everything immaculate like new or better.

If I had done a job like that, I'd be scared to ride it.

550 was my first 4 cylinder bike. Unremarkable but sweet UJM.
Think you would actually find the GS much nicer to ride.
Tank will need a seal if not already done to keep silt out of the carbs. And check the charge voltage.

Lots of really low km motorcycles over TM like that. Spotted a Ducati 1200 monster the other day - 2 years old, 1500 kms a fair number of Harleys like that - buy the dream and find it's not a wet one I guess.

They all state something like: 'no time to ride' clearly. And clearly when you purchased it you had no time to ride then either ...... or maybe thought you'd 'get' time......

Funny side note - Mrs B often gets asked silly questions like - you let him have a motorcycle? Her response shuts then up - he had one long before meeting me. And, 'oh he goes out on it for ride then (duh!)' - response, yes and he does not spend all day at golf/pub/TAB/rugby (insert as required) like your man ........

I'm pretty sure it's you making these countless bikes unremarkable.

I've ridden very few bikes I couldn't have an absolute ball On, I think you're just fucken doing it wrong.

Notice how I called it sweet? I did about 50,000k on that bike. It was well maintained and fettled and used to get the engine bars ( remember them?) ground down.
But with circa 40hp, slow but steady handling and a bit lardy, well it was unremarkable. My CBX550 knocked it into a cocked hat and my RZ350 was much much more fun. All bikes had many 10s of thousands of ks put on them. I'd only bother having the RZ back. And I kinda do.

I did with my SR400. Having said that I was realistic and sold it for 25% less than new price with 600km/2 months use.

    Bit of a hard lesson....

And fair to admit. Did you sell with "not the time to ride it? ". I'd bet not.

I did sell a bike with that reason, although I kinda needed the money to put back into racing and with new kids the Trials bike was underutilised. Cut the stable back to six.

Actually thinking of going down to 4.
Would free up some cash if that RD400 I'm hankering after magically appears for not too much money.

Ohh, pics of the 550. Or start a classic thread.
