Help with finding information for 1985 Honda CB650 Luxury Custom

My nameīs Michael and Iīm based in Christchurch.

Iīm seeking information about the Honda CB 650 Luxury Custom. Iīve bought one of these motorcycles for my son.

Despite searching online for information about this model and approaching Honda locally, I havenīt been able to find anything definitive yet. The local dealership claim that there arenīt any workshop manuals available in English, claiming that this model was released in Japan only although the seller says it was released into several territories.

Does anyone know where I can find the specifications for this motorcycle and which workshop manual would include this model?

    Thanks!

    Michael

Ones sold in the states were called NightHawks

The CB 650 was the last of Honda's SOHC bikes. They were built between late '78 and 1985 or 1986.

There were several models with production years varying depending on the market. For instance, the CB650SC Nighthawk was available in the US from late '81 thru 1982, but it was sold in the UK from early '82 the early '84.

The CB650LC - Luxury Custom - was a Japan-only model produced at the very end of the CB650 production life. The cynical among us may suggest it used up the leftover parts, but it should also benefit from several years of development and research into reducing the vibration found in the earlier models.

For workshop purposes, any CB650 manual will be an excellent start. There's a Haynes manual available for these.

R6_kid was selling one a few years ago - http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/106844

myhonda650.com has some useful info, too.

    some similar problem

    Hi,
    Just bought one.
I have a qustion. does anybody know what is the red signal light for - one next to the oil pressure.
I have something written on it, but in Japaneese .
What I know is that it goes on when I go over 80-90 km/h.
the link to R6- kid has a pic of it but also in Japaneese.
I have the same gauges and as You can see there is a red part on the speedo after 80/h
Might it be some kind of warrning like : "HOLD YOUR HORSES SON" you are over the limit ?
will be happy to find out.

The Japanese use to have a separate restriction for motorcycles of 80kph, so the light you speak of is a warning light for the Japanese rider that he is about to be ticketed for speeding. As a side bar Japanese import cars use to have a warning bell or buzzer that came on at 100kph I have disconnected many of these as they soon become annoying as a lot of them came on early at 90 to 95kph.

Just beware that all that extra luxury doesn't fool you
It's still a snarling beast of a bike.
