I second what Devil said, my KTM has covered 25,000ks in the last year and she's never missed a beat. Parts are easy enough to get hold of and there is plenty of aftermarket gear available.
If you're looking for passenger comfort you can't go past the bigger adventure bikes like the 1190 adventure or the BMW R1200GS - I fell asleep regularly on the back of my partner's old BMW R1200GS
