because my insurance company has cash settled part of my insurance claim after the earthquakes.
How do I convince my SO that buying an RC30 is a more sound financial decision than fixing the driveway?

Maybe because another earthquake will stuff it again.
"Sorry Officer, umm.... my yellow power band got stuck wide open"
...convincing yourself is 90% of the job done...

buy the bike, and 5 boxes of beer.
the beer to be used as bait to get mates to come around and help you do the driveway yourself - saving money.
job done
No point having a pretty bike if you can't get it up the drive is there!
I can answer in no other way though as work on my driveway starts in a month. Got $17k for the total fix and will get the work done for about $13.5k. Balance is going towards recarpeting the house along with what I'm saving on the house settlement by doing my house repairs myself. If I'm lucky I'll have about $3k left over to play with after all that. It's a bugger being a grown-up sometimes!
