    Another tellingphone thread. And shit.

while far from dead, my old nokia is showing the 2 years of abuse its suffered.
    I wanna new one.
    An' I like buttons.
Top picks are nokia e7 or asha 300. Though the e7 looks fragile. But sexy.

Also came acros cat (caterpillar) branded rugged phones, but the one with gps (b15?) are touch screen jewgle shit. I wouldnt want to flash it until it was out of warranty.... Does anyone even make epic smart buttoned phones anym0ar?

I used to be like you. I hung on to my buttoned phones for dear life. Until I learned something

Get a touchscreen android phone with "haptic feedphback". Basically it vibrates when you "hit a button" gives the sensation of the buttons without physical button being there.
I kid not - it works good.

You can also disable all the smart bullshit so it acts like a dumb phone too.

You can thank me in 6 months when you wonder why you didn't do it earlier.

Otherwise if you MUST get a buttoned phone. I would get then new crackberry. Least then you get a decent keyboard and screen layout.

I have a phone that does the vibrate thing, I still miss buttons. I hate not being able to just pick it up and dial, instead you have to navigate through a bunch of crap.

I also miss having a smaller phone (Xperia Z is what I have). I just cracked the screen from having it in my pocket while moving some furniture, which has made me hate it even more. Go the Asha. They have sold oodles of those and they look more robust. E7 keypad will annoy you.

On the up side, bigger screen is better for GPS and I can read books on mine when traveling without squinting at every word.

I got a $30 samsung from the big red shed a couple of weeks ago, after my trusty old phone went for a swim in dirty kerosene. I can txt, ring people, take pictures and videos and play games and music if I wanted too(but I dont) and if I want to read a book, I read a book.

Was just looking at the 2degrees ones of those at the supermarket. I'd be tempted if they were waterproof.

The book thing is nice if you're at home. Carrying books to kill time while traveling is a waste of space and extra weight.

I have one of the Samsung rugged style ones with buttons, reasonably waterproof and drop proof etc...
Was about $89 new from some dodgy indian on trademe. The first one he sent was faulty but this one works great.

Haptic feedback is no substitute for real buttons, you still have to look at screen.

BTW for anyone trying to top up prepay at moment Vodaphone having IT issues...

    I am, works great.

Got given a Galaxy S5 a couple of weeks ago but I gave it back. I want a 'mobile' phone, not a fucking computer that doesn't even fit in me pocket. My $40 Nokia whateveritis makes calls, does text, has Rhubarb and Custard as the ringtone and, get this, has a fucking colour screen! What more do you need? Unless you want to be a bit more Jewish of course.

Not sent from my tapawankfone V3s.

Yeah I'm with you. Got a basic Motorola smart phone when my Sanyo died but I don't like it. The phone geeks in the shops really don't get it when you ask for a phone which dials numbers.

Now I'm torn between looking for a tough basic phone or a large screen smart phone which at least is usable as a portable computer.

Honestly I'm surprised the "market" hasn't produced hard strong simple phones considering the number of people who work on construction and outdoors around the world.

They have - but they aren't cheap. Last one I priced up was a around the $300 mark. For what was a bulletproof dumb phone.

Sagem tried to make a market for themselves as everyone went smartphones. They were the "industrial phone" - and it nearly made them bankrupt. Safran bailed them out, and now they are really "Defence Phones" (so 5 times the price). Turns out that while tradies wanted a "hard strong simple phones" they didn't want to pay for them.
