    Best alternative to Trade Me?

I haven't tried to list a bike for sale on Trademe for a while and just got a shock when looking at their prices: $59 for something over $1500 in value. Maybe it isn't news to anyone but me but its still not right. So I checked Autotrader and found they didn't do bikes, so then had a look elsewhere and though the rates were much lower ($10 until sold) I didn't find anywhere with much more than a few listings. So is there no alternative to Trademe and if not would the Commerce Commission be the next best place to go ?

TradeMe is still the best option for exposure and sales success of your bike. Just add another $60 on your asking price to cover this. Gumtree isn't all that big in NZ yet but it is getting there. It's quite big in Oz and I used it a few times myself when living there but it has a high rate of scammers lurking on it.

Realistically there is no alternative to tardme. And yes, their prices are obscene:

    relevant.

you might try Wheedle if it is still going. It was being bankrolled by the guy who started Mainfreight: I looked at it a few times and it just didnt have the critical mass.....

    fuck tardme.

I had a bit of a surprise last time I sold a bike on TM, but, given the amount of exposure you get, you really cant beat it. of the last 10 or so vehicles I have bought and sold, only one of those transactions was for a vehicle or a buyer within 100km of me.

TM costs, but more often than not it gets results you wont get anywhere else.

Just add an additional 5k to the asking price to cover your fees, like many other people trying to sell bikes worth about $1500 do

I heard on Te Radio NEWS a while back, that it was being wound up.

BetradeMe are the big player now. The Real estate people were also shifting their house listings to their own website due to excessive arse-raping and profiteering by TardMe.

Close to $100 to sell a bike on auction now, they are really getting fucking ridiculous.

That said there's the old analogy....

Nikola Tesla visited Henry Ford at his factory, which was having some kind of difficulty. Ford asked Tesla if he could help identify the problem area. Tesla walked up to a wall of boilerplate and made a small X in chalk on one of the plates. Ford was thrilled, and told him to send an invoice.

The bill arrived, for $10,000. Ford asked for a breakdown. Tesla sent another invoice, indicating a $1 charge for marking the wall with an X, and $9,999 for knowing where to put it.

These guys have been trying to offer a bike-specific alternative, but it hasn't really kicked off yet: http://www.motorcyclealley.co.nz

Park it at the end of your driveway and put a for sale sign on it.
Really though, for less than $100 the whole country can see your bike for sale. Doesn't sound too bad to me.

Until people vote with their feet, it won't change.

At the moment we are stuck in the loop of people don't want to use trademe but won't use other websites as there is not enough interest on other websites, because people don't list with other websites there is no interest so the only realistic option is trademe.

Nobody forces anyone to use trade me......you can choose where you list.....it just so happens that trade me is the best place to sell.....you get what you pay for, cough up the hundy. A hundy is cheap if you sell
