1200GSA won't start in gear

It's happened again, or so I thought. The BMW Sensor Gremlin returned, and now I can not start the bike in gear.

So I know the clutch sensor, side stand switch and gear select sensor are connected to the ECU, and that the side stand needs to be up and the clutch pulled in before the bike will start, but this time it seems to have me beat.

I have tried:
- a new clutch sensor (No joy)
- tested the new clutch switch for continuity (TOK)
- Tested voltage on clutch switch circuit (shows 12v at all times)
- Test the side stand switch (TOK)
- Stand up/down, kill switch on/off, in gear/neutral (all scenarios work except starting in gear)
- Tested gear selection sensor (display works correctly at all times)

In all other respects the bike rides well. Just won't start in first.

Any ideas out there?

Mine doesn't either, haven't bothered to even look at the adjustment, kinda live with it, and it's not too annoying currently.

Cheers for that. I have been through all the tests, and this was a useful link to validate the starting procedure. Switch position is correct, and bench testing of individual components is pointing towards the ECU at the moment (wiring between ECU and switch seems to be OK: no chaffing, 12v showing etc).

Either way, still won't start in gear.

Or Austrian ...er, hang on, I can remember sidestand switch type issues on Jap bikes & KTMs too...

A couple of gotcha's for checking wiring, you can have the copper fatigue itself apart inside the insulation at movement points - wiggle the wire while checking continuity. Also just because you have 12V on your meter doesn't mean you will have 12V under load, a flaky connection can break down with the slightest current. Also be sure to check the earth side of the circuit too if that applies.

I watched one of dem German things lay down like the French Army on the flat at the Kiwi on weekend. Broke his pannier mounts quite easy, not sure if oem or something else...

Depending on the year, he just about didn't get a toolkit I think my OEM one had 7 tools, and 3 were torx keys...

Ok. He did have the fancy techno foil that wrapped around his gas stove... guess it was kinda handy cooking his breakfast on there next to our already raging bonfire...
