But it's Auntie Helen's shit. It must be right.

And at least H bought numbers. Albeit irrelevant ones.

Here, have a go yourself, it's not difficult, find a quality of life metric we're substantially worse of here/now compared to another country or era: http://ourworldindata.org/data/

Must be something in there you can get well depressed about, alcoholic mortality trend mebe....

Even if those life expectancy numbers are on the pessimistic side I still have, provided nothing untoward happens, almost as many years enjoying retirement as I did enjoy working...

more cherry picking there was a link to official treasury information
there was also questions that you never answered.
    ho ho ho..........
Your income per household That fails to take into account a cost of living that has outpaced those income figures especially when you take into account the increased number of people working per household to earn that figure.
It also disregards the fact that our standard of living has fallen compared to the other countries that we used to lead.

But as you think great progress has been made.
    http://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/h...ife-expectancy
we were ranked 7th in 1960
    14th in1970
    22nd in 1980
    20th 1990
    11thin 2000
    19th in 2011
    13th in 2013

    WOW............... negative overall.
How could that be spinned? oh yeah just use the age and disregard the past rankings..............

During which time NZ's life expectancy has gone from 77 to 82.

Who cares if half a dozen other countries now "rank" "higher" than us?

Isn't it more important that almost every country on the planet lives years longer just over the last few decades?

And you reckon I'm spinning shit.

    Aye. Important stuff.

Like burying 75% fewer infants, just in my lifetime.

If that's not enough to make you cheerful then best you shuffle off your mortal coil, fuck all can help you.

You are spinning that ........ while the age has increased it has not keep pace with the increases of rest of the world. It has actually slipped compared to our peers.
its not a reason to be cheerful its proof that we have not performed as well as we used to.
You could also say that in 1960 the ave wage was eqv $120. Yet now its $1000 and go wow look folks we are $820 a week better off. But without actual relevant comparisons in spending power its still irrelevant data.

Mate, if you want to be all bitter and twisted over the fact that out of 200 odd countries our life expectancy has moved from.....

"we were ranked 7th in 1960
    14th in1970
    22nd in 1980
    20th 1990
    11thin 2000
    19th in 2011
    13th in 2013"

and that Iceland now lives three days longer than NZ then you go right ahead.

I'll be over in the corner here, quietly thankful that we, our peers and especially the world's poorest are living longer than we used to, and continue to do so. If you improve the factors that affect mortality most then of course you're going to get a convergence of outcomes across the data set. That's a good thing innit?

I am not bitter and twisted about anything, I just not accept your figures, as they are rhetoric that is being spun and have no meaningful point of reference.
I took one of your measurements you hose to post and put it in its proper context.
It showed your glossy spin was unable to stand up to long term scrutiny as it actually showed a major fall in life expectancy rankings when compared to how well we used to do against the rest of the world.
Feel free to gloat on about how great it is all you want, but do so whilst ignoring the fact that NZ is slipping behind other developed countries, feel free to give yourself a great big pat on the back about that if you wish.

Well it is fucking great. I've had a very good year, and got some very good family and friends to ring it out with, and in good health. I'd have to be mentally ill not to be cheerful

They're not my figures. They originate from http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.LE00.IN , https://www.clio-infra.eu/datasets/search and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ife_expectancy No shortage of references. No rhetoric there.

Have a look around. You can probably find more bad news in there, but you'll have to wade through a bunch of good news to find it.

And I don't think you can call it a major fall when the improvement in life expectancy in the top dozen countries is at least an order of magnitude greater than the variation in improvement between them. I'd say "proper context" would be considering the couple of days separating them as of little statistical significance contributing fuck all to the overall quality of life the original survey covered.

If you're hell bent on hyper-focusing on our "rank" amongst the worlds elite living standards as defined by improved life expectancy then take comfort from the fact that for the last half decade we've improved more than our cohorts. Who gets the pat on the back for that?
