    A little lie down

I am in the market for a new helmet.

So this morning, on the spur of the moment, I decide to pootle up to d'Auckland and visit Motomail to try on the Scorpion range.

Get up there, no problems. Ride up College Hill and see Moto on t'other side of the road. So I stop on the centre line to wait for a space which duly arrives (a big one fortunately) and proceed to perform the u-turn. Nek minnit the whole fucking thing falls over, me included. How this happened I really don't know. Possibly too much lean before moving enough to hold the bike up. Aided perhaps by a degree of brain fade induced by d'Auckland motorway traffic. "How embarrassing" I think.

Can't pick it up either - too heavy and lying downhill. Fortunately several very charming young ladies turn up and help hoist all back upright. Thanks girls.

Minor scuffs on the fairing (they do have a use after all!) and a slightly bent brake lever. No real damage - apart from to dignity of which I have very little anyway so who cares.

    Scorpion helmets?

Nothing fitted well enough to be of interest. Best fit was a mere $400 but had a clip fastener instead of D-rings, was tight on the back of the head and showed an alarming degree of lift possible when pulling the front up - even more than my well worn Arai. The more expensive ones were not that comfortable either.

Guess I'll have to save the pennies and stay with Arai. And be more careful when turning around.

Just as well you admitted it was you, the video is already on Youtube...

As for helmets, I went from Arai to Shoei years ago and never looked back. Wife has a Givi and loves it.

And you don't call them scratches on the fairing, character is the correct description. Ladies helping a bike off you, I'm sure there'll be a pun or three coming about that At least it ended without a hospital stay.

Try to not fall over in front of Aucklanders in cars too much aye? They don't need much excuse to keep going...

I tell ya, you let these flatlanders come up north, give them a little hill and they're throwing themselves all over the place

They get bonus points if they run over anything with two wheels.

Slofox, you're in one piece, and no bones are poking out. The rest doesn't matter.

I've got an Arai head, for which I am grateful for given I crash other peoples motorcycles with monotonous regularity.

As long as the KB rule applies: that the bike didn't travel more than its length - so it isn't classed as a "crash"...

    Glad you're OK Slo!
