K7 GSXR 750 gearbox problem

I am having trouble down shifting from 4th gear on my K7 gixxer when the engine is hot (bike is used as a track bike only). If I shift up to 5th it will change down through all gears but will not drop down to 3rd from 4th if 4th is the only gear I have gone up to. I do not crash gears, always use the clutch. Any thoughts appreciated. If needs be I will split the cases as I am capable and have done this a number of times on other bike; so am not affraid of the work.

first I would take the side cover off check the gear change selector isn't bent, and isn't missing any springs, and is adjusted correctly. Then I would be checking shift forks and drum etc.
