Cool 2009 R6 replacement key question

    Hey guys,

I'm back to this forum as I have just purchased a 2009 R6 after a period of not riding. It only came with one key so I was wondering if the keys are coded with the ECU? I've read online that the USA versions are not but everywhere outside is? So has anyone got any experience making a spare key for their r6? Do I need to get one ordered and coded or can I just get one key cut and use it straight?

    Cheers

Specialist key cutting outfits have a wee pad that reads the key and tells you if it has a chip or not.....some of which it can replicate.
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....

Yeah, I called up cycletreads and they said they can't make a copy without the red key which I don't have. And a locksmith quoted me $245 to copy my current key coz it is a transponder key. Fml

Easiest way to tell if it's a transponder key is if there is a red ring on the front of the ignition

If it has a red flashing light on the dash it will have a transponder.

My old R6 wouldn't start with the black key after the battery died until after I used the red key. Then the black one started working again. Weird
