    Yamaha R3 vs Ninja 300

    Hi everyone,

Apologise for a noob question, I am considering my first bike (LAMS)and pretty much decided to go with ninja 300 ABS new.

Preferably would have chosen Yamaha MT07 but the cost is an issue.

However today I saw a post about Yamaha R3 which is suppose to closely compete with Ninja 300. It seems it's not available in NZ yet.

Does anyone know if and when will it arrive? And it would pay off to wait till it is here before going ahead with Ninja?

    Thanks

Been waiting on news for this as well, I'm in the same boat.

Had a chat to my local dealer a month or so ago and the latest was:

"Eta is still 2nd quarter, no dates as yet from Yamaha new Zealand, I’m guessing april/may

Price $7000 to $7999 just guessing, but do not see it being dearer than Kawasaki."

My guess, I think it will be a little better all round being a new design, and slightly larger engine. A bit more power/torque.
Bugger all real world info on the web yet.

I have never understood why people want to spend so much money on a bike they will outgrow in a matter of weeks/months.

Is it applicable to everyone ? As in every new rider would want to sell his or her ninja 300 (for example) after few months ?

No, at one point I was thinking of trading in my SV1000 and getting one of these ( ninja 300 ) as a cheap economical commuter option.

Mine Gonna be purely for joy ride in a nice weather . So I think Ninja 300 would fit . R3 going to come to NZ in June per Yamaha's comment.

I originally was so close to buy MT-07 but my budget changed . And nothing in between tickles my fancy

Fuel economy - the justification for people who have given up on having a fun, fulfilling life. Buy a scooter if you're interested in fuel economy.

There is zero point buying a brand new low cc sports bike... sheep in wolf's clothing. For the price you could probly get a bike for your learners AND another bike that'll be decent fun for your full... If it's just a weekend blaster then there's no point in making a half arsed effort..

Still, buy a $2,000 learner bike and save the $8k for your first real bike.

Or buy a 2 year old LAMS bike and get 80% of your monies back.
The Enfield does have the look good factor. I would like one but I would need have it as a second bike for performance reasons.
Its the kind of thing your could do licence on and then keep if money isn't an issue when you buy bigger.
