I wonder how many Japanese, German and Italian bikes will go on this ride? Hey - no worries as far as I'm concerned - just raising a point..

Not sure what the point is? How mnay Japanese, German and Italian soldiers died in the war? I was totally struck by the attitude of reconciliation by the Turkish people when I was in Gallipoli this year. There was definitely no hard feelings anywhere, and just an attitude of having a shared historical experience between our cultures.

I remarked at the time that I thought it would be difficult for Kiwis to hold the same attitude if the situation was reversed.

    We're friends now.
    Keep on chooglin'

Its a ride of respect right? Respect for who exactly?

Plenty of WW2 vets still wouldn't ever own a Japanese car... (hey I work for a Japanese company) But how are you respecting the Vets and their opinions?

I'm sorry but I get really conflicted by these things. I respect and understand (understand only to a small degree) the sacrifices my parents generation made in WW2 but I doubt my Dad and his mates would have ever gone along with something like this. He owned bikes when he was a young fella but a whole mess of bikes turning up at an RSA would have probably just annoyed the shit out of him if he was wanting a quiet beer. Its just my opinion, I've had unpopular ones in the past and I will doubtless have them again...

What worries me is that this sort of stuff attracts idiots as well as the genuine folks and you don't dare question their motives because its all about respecting old diggers... erm... If you want to respect them - join the local RSA - most of them are struggling...

This is not only a New Zealand ride. Ride Respsect Uk. From want I understand, One of the regions organisers was approached by the UK organisers and asked if he could organise a ride, and boy did it take off from there with most of of the regions getting involved, Nelson Bays have just indicated they are organising a ride.

I know the RSA in Christchurch have been involved in planning the Christchurch regions ride.

Every country and every individual within that country has the right to remember their veterans and the sacrifice they gave for their country's and also world's future , whether this be a memorial ride, a dawn parade or other means. I personally applaud and thank the many regional organisers of this ride for the effort they have put into this.

Yup the RSA's are struggling, My local is no longer open....... trying to open doors again apparently but unfortunately members are not being kept in the loop so I have no idea when and if they will open again. a Sunday morning- lunch times are often empty at RSA so it will have little effect on members there (Papakura is not open for breakfast but is for this ride) and having a large group come through and put money in would have to give more of a chance of them keeping there doors open. My Great uncle loves bikes and while struggles to walk now doesn't prejudiced against any brand, Yup he served, You would be surprised how many older vet recant the days when they rode at events like this (have done a few rides to RSA's over the years, they are not new)

Done right these events create a lot of interest and get people in RSA's that would not normally head there and maybe a few new members but definitely a cash injection.

Obviously the balls up down the line will get some knee jerk reaction......
