The manual is helpfully vague - "use 10W-40".
Synthetic, semi-synthetic, mineral?
Also, anyone have a preferred brand? I've always used Castrol in my cars...

I use Putoline Sport 4 10w-40 in my sidecar which runs a modified K4 GSXR 1000 motor

I use elf oils because elf sponsored some speedway series I was a part of. Buy quality, I prefer synthetic (I've tried a couple different oils for a few 1000km, synthetic seemed to help with smoother gear changes).
Support a brand which is quality and supports a racing series you watch
Penrite 5/40 fully synthetic.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.
So full synthetic, decent brand (I doubt I'll get brand consensus on here!).
The manual also says 18'000km between changes. Is this appropriate?
Castrol Activ 4T is what I've used in the past. Mobil 1 full synthetic nowadays.
Or just ask the bike shop when you fetch an oil filter?
Once go fully synthetic don't go back to semi again.
I would think your reading information about service number 4 at 18k.
Seems likely oil and filter should be every 6k or 12months which ever comes first.
If you give the bike a hard life you could reduce that even more.
Race bike I was doing every 2hrs track time.

I like the full synthetics. Brand is your preference X Y Z.
Got some Amsoil in presently.
Don't rate Castrol in my bike (does not shift as well after a few thousand kms) but that's bike specific and I ran it successfully on other rides.
18,000 kms between changes - on a Suzuki. Best check again they tend to have the shortest oil change intervals recommended in NZ I've seen (6k). Lots of bike makes recommend intervals of 10-12,000 kms.
BUT
You will find they also recommend yearly changes as if lower kms the oil still picks up a degree of water over the year.
I only do about 5k a year and change oil and filter yearly. If I was doing higher kms I'd personally still change the oil around 6k and filter every second change. But I've always been fussy about shit like that and work on the theory oil changes are easy to do at home and relatively cheap. Yeah it is likely I am wasting money but I feel happy with my oil change regime.
Your choice. Good luck :-)
Sorry - my bad. I saw the title "engine oil replacement" and "18'000km" and didn't read the paragraph. Oil and filter every 18'000. 6'000 for the oil....
Price of filter so low you should do every time. Filter not replaced contains a lot of old oil also.

That's the K&N that fits in your bike.

I must do some research on the net - bet Suzuki USA recommend higher oil change intervals than 3750 miles...... I may even put on my tin-foil hat and suggest it is a conspiracy between Suzuki dealers in NZ ...........
