The Barry Sheene Classic is no more

A heads up, as I have inside information. In a press release due out in the next few days, the Barry Sheene Classic is changing. This year it's going international and is getting a new series sponsor. Wanting to make it more about NZ the board decided that while Barry is well known, he wasn't a Kiwi or Kiwi brand. So potential sponsors are being invited to take one of several layers of sponsorship. Naming rights have gone so watch this space to find out the new name!

It's going to be much bigger with more than 250 riders on some 300 machines coming from several countries including the US, UK and Australia. There will be a BEARS race plus more.

Edbear, you mention 'the board'. Which board would that be? In the past the NZ Barry Sheene meeting has been run in a collaboration between the NZCMRR, NZPCRA and the NZSRA. Which one or any part of them are you talking about? I'm a member of two of them and was part of the organising committee for the last meeting and haven't heard anything as yet.

As Burt Monroe is used up, and John Britten is SOT, only leaves Nodrog really.

I haven't heard of it either, mind you did hear about the radars being out from the cleaners before it was on the news
