Maori King's new claim for a substantial part of Auckland

This might be one way of slowing down the real estate inflation issues in the big city

Can't get the news clip right now, someone will post it I'm sure

The Maori King says he is determined to launch a claim for greater Auckland.

The king said he was entering into a new era of rights and claims - one that was destined to bring about problems and disagreements, but he was obliged to go there.

The claim for greater Auckland goes as far as the Mahurangi Peninsula, the Firth of Thames and across to the Manukau Harbour and Piha.

The tribes are already arguing about how to divvy it up so its must be a done deal.

If they can provide evidence of the value they added to the bare land that was there before they took up residence and subsequent improvements they made before European settlers arrived, then maybe they should get that value back. I think they dug a few trenches to fight each other from with stick and stones, stacked a few rocks and made some crass huts. $176 should cover it.
