I wonder what popped..pretty much every lithium battery used in EVs has a pressure vent to prevent explosions

Everything built buy humans is infallible then? Crikey. I was not aware.

Still, even though it's such a small sample (1) this completely proves the basis for all my negativity toward electric bikes. All those burning, petrol-powered-bike conflagrations are nothing compared to this dreadful threat. Electric Bikes must be banned because "Health & Safety".

It was probably a triumph which leaked oil onto the extension cord used for charging...

Wish there was more info about what battery type also and history of vehicle, eg any impacts??? Still there's no shortage of news articles about electric vehicle fires which is a worry given how rare they still are, hybrids included.
Also with the prevailing advice now being to not leave hungry devices like ipads and iphones charging unattended (eg asleep or while your away at shop) I wonder how long before insurance companies decline cover for an electric vehicle charging unsupervised/monitored.
Will manufacturers have systems that void battery warranty after impact damage and record/transmit this so your insurance is void too????

A few months ago an acquaintance's house burnt down due to a fire caused by charging the battery in his Fiat.
Charging fires are probably a lot more common than we realise.

Watched a doco recently on the history of engines, from steam to now. Every step forward in technology started with a period of big bangs and fires.

Fact ... if it can go wrong ... it possibly will.

Fiction ... it could never happen to me ...

So when you think of the big bang you think more of Hiroshima?

We don't actually know that for sure. They could well have been Harley's or Ducati's.
