    Check it out

If you live anywhere near nelson (yes wellington you too) make the effort to go have a look. There are bikes in there that you will never get to see another example of in your lifetime.
The team there would love to show you around and point out the one of a kind bikes as well as let you take photos with the bikes.

Sad. Feel sorry for the chap who got the position they advertised just last year. Short lived dream job!

Would have thought they could have covered a good amount of the costs associated with displaying them like that doing a few different things on the boil in someone elses hands, but it is what it is.

Bugger was up that way last month and did not know it existed.

300 odd bikes collected in 7 years. Well done that man.

Reading the article I am of the mind they will be getting sold soon ........

The museum is closing g because Tom (the owner) has had a major cancer scare. he's decided to remove all the stress from his life and sadly that includes the public display of his bikes. Most of them were restored by the team at the museum and all are a credit to their work and dedication.
None of the bikes will be coming up for sale. As well as the 300 or so already done there are almost that many within for the magic touch.
Even if classics aren't your thing you will be impressed.

If those business interests made a good profit ... even after staff costs ... why not.

The bikes just became a hobby ... and no longer an unprofitable business. Again ... why not ... ???

Even better ... the bike collection stays together ... and in Nelson.

Yeah, if they're financially thick. If they're not they will likely cut off the fat and maximise profit so their spouses and or family that take control of their assets when they pass don't have to do it themselves/inherit financial burdens.

I would try keep it open as something that at least covers the costs of the museum itself (the cost of owning the collection is a separate issue imo), you obviously would, and the man with the bucks clearly wouldn't.
There is probably some reason here I can't put my finger on as to why this man has much more money than both of us put together

Either way, take a gander before it's gone. I sure will.

Perhaps his concern is for the financial security of his family ... first and foremost.

Less for them to deal/struggle with if he does not "survive" ... in other words .. putting his house in order so to speak.

You may only be thinking of yourself first (and what you would do) ... but he wont be.

It is possible he's afraid his wife will sell them for what he told her he paid for them.

Are we going to suddenly see 300 odd bikes added to the "Optimistic Sellers" thread?
